I finally got my kayak after years of reading posts on here and dreaming of my own. I bought a Trident 13 and took it of for my first adventure. I started at Half Moon Bay in Winchester. I loaded a crab pot on the back and paddled out nervously lol. I dropped the pot and let it soak for 30-40 min. in the mean time i tried a little bit of fishing with no luck. When it was time I pulled the pot up and found a plethora of crab. all the males were under sized, and the females were giant lol. So they all went free. I paddled back to shore and loaded my gear in the truck. I was heading south to Sunset Bay for some angling.

Sunset bay was fantastic. Calm, Clear, and sunny. I paddled out as far as the last line of rocks. I didnt want to push it to far because it was my first time. I jig fished with a white curly tail grub, and some shrimp flies. I managed to foul hook one cabazon that I believe was undersized, so I threw it back. I need to get one of those fish rulers you guys have.

All in all it was a great day, and I cant wait to do it again. I want to thank all of you from NWKA for posting and sharing everything. I wouldnt have been able to do it without all the helpful info on this site.

One problem. After I was done fishing and on the beach I noticed there was half a cup to a cup of sea water in the hull of my kayak. Is this normal and nothing to worry about? or should it have stayed dry considering i never opened my hatch or rod pod. I appreciate the feed back. If i have to call the manufacture or the place i bought it from I will.

thanks

Half cup is nothing if you had any waves come over the bow.  Kayaks aren't really that water tight.  The more holes you drill for accessories, the more odds you'll have a leak somewhere.

Congratulations on the new kayak and getting out there. This is my 5th year fishing from a kayak and I just got out on the ocean for the first time this past weekend.(Also in a T-13)  I guess I am pretty cautious.  It looks like you had pretty good conditions and caught a fish!

You should be cautious as should I. I picked those two spots because I know they are easy launches, well protected from wind and waves, visible for all to see just in case something goes wrong, and I would have a slight chance to catch a fish.

Great first run to the salt!

Just FYI: Unless it's different down there, cabezon retention is closed until July 1.

Awesome report! That amount of water in your kayak isn't really a big concern, but it may be worth looking into. Spray your kayak with a hose one spot at a time and see if any water gets in or put a light inside the kayak in various locations and turn the lights off to see if you can see any light shining through. Or, if you really want to find your leak, blow air into you kayak somehow and then wipe suspect areas with soapy water and see if any bubbles form.
