My girlfriend and I are planning on going down to the Whiskey Gulch area this weekend, does anyone know of any decent camp spots in the area? This will be my first time down there.

Went down for the first time myself on the 30th. Right side is paid and more "refined". Left side is primitive camping and where most of the Yaker's went. I can tell you as a newbie the best part is putting the faces and names together. The guys are great and all will help. Looked like there was plenty of room. Bring your fire wood.

Thanks for the info! We have plenty of firewood so we should be okay. Is the camping right on the beech?

There's about 200+ feet of space above the tide line and towards the cliffs the high side of the access road /trail  so you are not on the beach but are pretty much beach front.   No toilets, though.

they had a port a potty last year, glad someone set it up again. Camping at whiskey is great left or right side plenty of space. Beach comb for wood or bring your own. You can find some beach coal too. Has that distinct oily, ocean smell when burnt.

I'll be getting there Thursday(11th) morning and staying till Monday(15th).

The camping is pretty good, you can choose to camp up against the bluffs where there are some trees for cover and hanging a tarp along with fire pits set up. Or you can camp right on the beach in the open. Yes, there is a porti-potty(Bring your own toilet paper).

If you need wood there is a guy about 3/4 of a mile past the WG turn off on the left side that sells good seasoned wood for really good prices and its on the honor system so if he's not there just put the money in the little white box.

Thanks for all of the information! I will see you guys there. I'll be the 6'10" guy dancing like a teenage girl putting on a new pair of jeans trying to get in and out of my drysuit.

Friday looks ok at WG.  My company generously gives a person's B-day as a floating Holiday so I am planning to take Friday off.

If you have time Thursday, I think there are all sorts of options.  If you had a buddy, you might even consider floating the Kenai for reds and trout.  The Homer Lagoon side looks fishable.  I also might try a late night (like midnight) fishing at Hidden Lake.

I need to find a king though....hmmm....
