Is it illegal to fish with two poles at the same time in Oregon (unless out in the ocean 3+ miles)?

I keep running into these guys at Cook Park fishing off the dock with two poles each.  I'm not normally the type to do/say anything (or tattle), but spacing is tight off the dock, (haven't had access to car with rack to take yaks out lately), and when they are casting in two completely different directions and just using more space than normal, then it bothers me...

Or has something changed in the rules?

Yes, it is illegal to fish with more than one rod. No there is no change (although there is talk of being able to buy a tag for a second rod next year).

I had to catch myself in the Tualatin as the drill in FL (where there is no restriction) is to troll one rod off the back and cast with another. On my first day out this year I kept wondering why I was getting dirty looks from other paddlers. :o   I pulled it in as soon as I realized I was not in FL. :-[

Fftw,  thanks for the reply.  I was pretty sure.  Wow, you forgot you weren't in FL?  Must have been some jet lag! heh

You know with all the downed trees and structure in the Tualatin, kinda looks like some gators might be lurking around there.

Do you fish the Tualatin often?

There are definitly gators in the Tualatin (not the kind you make shoes and handbags out of)   :D

PSR: Yep, well sorta. Its my default spot when I need a quick fix.  It's about 15 min from my front door to paddling away from the ramp.

Spot: Are you suggesting that they have sturgeon in the T or is there some other kind of gator up here?

Hi Sean,

I've heard other reports of those guys fishing 2 or more rods.  Do you know if they drive there or com on foot/bike?

A quick call to the number below with a description will help preserve the resource.  As ethical anglers its each of our responsibility.  They probably leave their trash, empty beer cans and cigarette butts there too.

Greg,

I'm sure they are driving.  They have a lot of gear, a couple coolers, chairs, tackle boxes, ect.

My guess is that they are Cali transplants and aren't familiar with the laws of the land heh.  I guess I'll kindly remind them of the rules and that others are onto them.  They are releasing all the fish they catch, so it's not like they are causing too much damage, I'll give them a heads-up next time i see them, they are friendly offered me worms and what not, so don't want to just report them if they are making an honest mistake.

Just wanted to make sure that I wasn't mistaken before I opened my mouth.

Thanks guys, and Greg I'll put that number in my phone.

Even though they're not retaining the fish, in warmer weather/water the stress of hooking, playing and landing takes its toll on 90% of them.

A friendly conversation would be good first step.  See em doing it again after that....  I was from CA and not reading the regs is no excuse.  Especially since fisheries managers change the rules so frequently here in OR.

Even in California it's illegal to fish a river with two poles.  There is a two rod stamp that one can purchase that allows you to fish with an extra rod on lakes and reservoirs.

BTW, I wish Oregon's "turn in poachers" number was easy to remember like California's..

I believe you can fish 8 rods in California for Halibut if you want.
