Well fergy I intend to work on some gear but I got to change out a water heater today I guess I'll try to fish tomorrow

Oooh plumbing .... my favorite.  NOT

Day off today to celebrate my wife's birthday.   Would post a gift -spoiler here, now,  but theres a chance she'd see it, so once she opens her present I'll share with you all, might get a chuckle.

I got my GF a pink avet sx.  Ended up keeping the avet, not the GF.  LOL.  be careful!  But I also knows she fishes as hard as you do so you might be ok.

LOL - yeah you got my drift I think.

Susan has form many years come back from halibut trips with a badly aching left wrist, and has had to stop fishing partway through the day a few times.   So for the last couple weeks I have been working my way through old reels, rebuilding drags, trying to find a suitable left hand retrieve reel to pair with one of my Cedros or Travala rods so she can switch hands and go lefty.  No luck, didnt have the right  (left) stuff or what I had was not in good shape, etc.   And then, while I was traveling in Ketchikan last week I had my copy of Fish Alaska and was reading Kardinal 84's fine article there-in, when I came across another good piece by Stu over at B&J.   His article was "Spin in the Salt"   :sign13:

Good article, and perfectly timed, as the solution to the hand/wrist fatigue was:   Buy her a Saltwater spinning rig for Jigging.  I called Stu, and got her a FinNor Lethal 80 paired onto a Travala one-piece jigging rod rated for 50 to 100# braid.   She will spin fish for halibut and no longer have to fight right handed and balance the rod-twist from a top-side reel.  :)    The Lethal has a drag rated to 28#, so it's quite impressive!  Balance with nothing rigged is a bit close, but with a 14oz Jig rigged it feels good!

I am hoping this solves her L/R and wrist issues - it looks likely to be a great way to jig fish.  AND, similar to Stu and as he would say - Susan is ADD when it comes to halibut fishing.  She HATES fishing circle hooks - she can set a hook like nothing youve seen.

I'm avoiding the stoopid outside temperatures.

This is the PNW, not flipp'n Aridzona damnit!  I hate having to wear sunblock just to go get the mail.

I want my 65 degrees and overcast days back!!!!

NOW!  >:(

THIS. I am sick of this heat, and the people it puts on my water.

Every thing ive read lists the Lethal 80 at 40# drag, even more impressive   http://www.finnorfishing.com/LethalSP.html
I just bought a Lethal 40 and really like it. Even the size 40 has 23# drag.  Going to use it for Stripers and casting Salmon spinners. The quality seems great for the money. I think it was $87 on amazon.

Wow - thanks now I will have to pull test mine Susan's and see.  Anything after 25 pounds is pretty much sounding like overkill in a kayak, but nice to have that strength in reserve and Susan can use hers when we are out PB'ing.

I may have to check out the capacity on the Lethal 40 and see about rigging a lighter weight package with a single piece medium action rod and some lighter braid.   I really like the build quality on the 80 - if you are finding the 40 is built super strong as well, then I may be right behind you with my order!

Please do get back with a review or PM me with your thoughts on the 40.

yea, I thought about going with the 60, but the drag on the 40 was enough, and it has a little higher gear ratio. Ive used it for Stripers a few times but havent caught anything on it yet. I spooled it with 50 lb braid and a 30 lb  mono topshot. Casts a mile with the big Striper plugs.  It claims 270 yds of 30 lb braid. Salmon are starting to show up now. I will try to remember to give you a review after I catch a few.

Funny I moved here from NCAL and it is hotter in PDX than the east bay. My retriever is miserable.
