Very curious as to what sort of trips you guys dream about ... got a few balls in the air for trips next year and would love to get some feedback on what you find cool.

I suppose you meant to say that I "just got home from it".

So ... we'll see you next year on the trip?  It's relatively cheap for an Alaskan Experience.   ;)

$500 for the water taxi including drop off and pick up.
$125 for kayak rental for 5 days.
$35/night for the cabin shared 6 ways.
Airfare is the killer and can be more that the above combined.

Hmmm, I'll have to think about that a bit more.  But basically they fall into several categories.

1.)Trips for bigfish (AK, Baja)
2.)Trips for lots of new and different fish (I have a life list of species I've caught)
3.)Trips to places I haven't been
4.)Trips to places no one has kayak fished

One trip that might fit that bill for all of those would be the Amazon.  Peakcock bass, payara, giant catfish, etc..  Then again.. mosquito born disease, piranha, anacondas, caiman, and especially candiru are things that would keep me thinking twice.

1. The BWCA again for a couple weeks.  That was by far the best outdoor trip I have ever taken (too bad I did it by canoe).  The big killer here would be the portages.

2. Lake Baikal in Siberia.  The world's deepest, most diverse lake in the middle of an extraordinary wilderness.

3. Congo... the place mystifies me.  Of course, if I went here I would have to satisfy a whole bunch of dreams since I more than likely would only make it to Africa once.  (summit Killimanjaro, see the ruins/wonders, ride a BMW GS in Dakar, surf in Cape Town...)

4. Amazon for the same reasons mentioned by Bsteves

Been there, done that.  Was even using a dugout canoe for that one ... close enough to a kayak!!!

You should have seen my twins reactions when I warned them about candiru on our trip to Nicaragua!   :o  At 1st they thought I was kidding....   :o

I'd love to do a combined surf/yak fishing trip to Kamchatka!

I'd be happy with a simple trip to the Sea of Cortez though.

Other trips I wouldn't complain about:

Solomon Islands

New Guinea

Surfboards, Kayaks and a mothership.  What could be better?

You plan a trip like that and I'll try and find a way there!

That sound like a challenge.  Heck, if I get 5 guys committed to any trip that comes up here, I'll plan it.

Central American is definitely a place I have my eye on.  Have fished Costa Rica and El Salvador a number of times.  I think one could put together outstanding kayak fishing trips here.

Solomon Islands
New Guinea
Surfboards, Kayaks and a mothership.  What could be better?

I got one for the south pacific ... http://www.oceanblue.com.vu/

They run multiday boat trips to New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji.  Way back when they used to be a small outfit ...  I chartered a boat for 3 days with Captain Remy on the Ymer (Remy spelled backwards) out of Porto Villa in Vanuatu.

This could be a great mothership adventure for those inclined.

I second the Amazon, and third AK---maybe the Kenai.  But...I had a friend named Dick Root, he was a doc at the VA where I'm computer programmer.  He was in a dugout canoe trip in Botswana, the Limpopo river---a huge croc leaped out of the water, grabbed Dick, and took him under., never to surface. Sad story---he was former chief at Harborview.  Soooo....I think I'll have to pass on rivers where crocs and hippos are a danger.  Baikal is very intriguing!  As is Kamchatka.
But I think Porto Vallarta for marlin and tuna would be it----warm water, big fish, cheap beer....big fish....
