Me and my son decided it was time to take the ocean kayaks to the ocean . we never fished out of them in the ocean before . we were a little intimidated at first by the size of the water but quickly got the hang of it . we tried jigging around the rocks north of the harbor but didn't catch anything. Even though we didn't catch anything we had a great time hanging with the seals and met a couple other kayaker's who said some gray whales had surfaced next to them . I wish we would have know exactly how to fish there I'm more of a lake and river fisherman so o really need to learn the ins and outs of fishing in the ocean .
I sure would like to hook up with other local southern Oregon folks who know the waters here and how to catch the fish . I dont like to paddle alone my kids are all grown and moved away so I dont have fishing and kayaking partners anymore . only when they come to visit .

next time....gimme a call.
If I can't get away to fish with you, I have a buddy who is retired that will.
We have been talking of floating from the mouth of the Chetco to the mouth of the Winchuck, fishing all the way.
BTW check out the last few issues of the Curry Coastal Pilot......nice fish out there.

This could be why you weren't catching fish.  Rarely are there many ground fish when seals are abundant.  Search for deeper structure away from seals.

I was having the same feeling about the seals and lack of fish too .
