I'm hoping to be out of Portland at 11a Friday; I'll be heading straight to DB to fish a bit before the meeting at 7p.  See you all out there.

FYI, don't get caught looking at the surf and miss the signs. :-)

The Lincoln City Police Department will be conducting a Pedestrian Safety Operation on Friday, July 19 on Hwy 101 in the area South 3rd Street

With the use of a decoy pedestrian, police hope to raise awareness of drivers and pedestrians of their mutual obligations to watch out for each other. The operation will be conducted between 12noon and 3pm, and again on Sunday, July 19th. Warning signs on 101 will be posted at both ends of the pedestrian safety zones.

Are they required to post a heads up on things like this?  It sounds counter intuitive from an income perspective.

 :dontknow:

How do you get peoples attention faster than writing them some tickets?
Now that everyone knows about it, it won't be as easy to tag a driver that doesn't know the laws regarding peds.

I'm sure they'll be giving out plenty of tickets anyway.

But the point is pedestrian safety awareness, so by setting up signs, more people will be aware as they head in to town.  Mission accomplished.   Also.. it should cut down on the number of people bitching that it was some sort of illegal entrapment or money making scheme.

Yeah, don't worry, there are plenty of bad drivers and people not paying attention on the coast that they will have plenty to keep them busy even with the warning signs.

I'm not at all worried, as I will be passing through Lincoln City on Wednesday morning heading to Chinook Bend, and going through Newport/Corvalis on the way home.

I fully support the act of spreading awareness to drivers of pedestrian crossing rules. On the flip side there also needs to be more education to the pedestrians themselves to make it known that they intend to cross.  Pedestrians standing 5-6 feet back from the curb, facing away from the road itself, or being tucked in some shadows all make it difficult for drivers to clearly and safely identify that person wants to cross.

Pedestrians should be required to be standing at or near the curb AND have an arm extended out in the direction of the intended crossing.

Sorry for the derailment of the original topic here.  :-\

Thanks for all the help fellas. So 69 & 80 for radio channels. I’ll focus on 80 if that is what the powerboats use. It would be kinda cool if we could keep from getting run over on our first outing.

@ Fred: (and anyone else who would like to look us up) I can’t remember if I was given a campground number yet but we will be in the RV area in a Cherokee Wolfpack TT and a Blue Dodge pickup. There will be a couple Hobie Outbacks on the truck rack (green and bone color). Look me up if I don’t find you - We’d love to have some company Friday.

@ rawkfish: “if you're ready when I'm ready” When will you be ready? I am pretty sure we can be ready at the same time  ;)

Probably something I should have clarified, huh?  I'll be at camp Thursday night so we can chat more then, but if I don't see you I'll probably be getting to the launch at around 6am, and slipping through the hole about a half hour after that.
