I live in a small town called Bandon which has  the reputation for being the worst bar on the the Oregon coast. I have to travel north or south just to do my ocean fishing. So my question is has anyone ever tried to get a ride from a charter boat to get taking out into the ocean for a day of fishing. We have good bottom fishing one mile out that all the power boats do good on and it kills me that I can not paddle out to the same spot as they do. I will have to go and talk to the local charter people in the next cpl of days.

SCP, kayak fishing charterboats/motherships are becoming popular in SoCal.  It's only a matter of time before we see them here.  Let us know if you get any takers ... especially if you find one willing to run to the blue water for albacore.

SCP,
One mile ain't so bad! I paddle the Chetco River lower section quite often and it is a solid 2 miles each way, and I am old and have a re-built shoulder. The biggest concern is all the PB's you mentioned, as they will be not expecting to see you out there with them.
Carry a flag and some water to drink, and always take a buddy while on the Ocean if possible. heck, you'll prolly make some new friends and get a ride back in on a PB!

Pole, if you visit the salmontroutsteelhead.com site, you will see me waiting at the mouth of the Chetco River with my thumb out and a Yak under my arm. Albacore are here now between 28-70 miles out depending where you are located on the Coast.
We just bouight and canned 300# (14 fish)
any tips on how paddle and troll at a steady 6 knots  ;D

Which site is that BOR?

No need to troll at 6 knots.  Find the fish.  Troll a fish trap at 3 knots.  I think you could mooch/troll/trooch them up too.  I've done a fair amount of albacore fishing and I think about this all the time.  Well, not all the time.  But I've thought about it a lot.  I think Spike has thought this through for his trips.  Probably a good question to ask him too.

Its not the distance I care about its crossing over the bar. It can be fine one min then breaking the next.

I figured you meant http://www.salmontroutandsteelhead.com/ but didn't see you there either.

I have hitchhiked with a 16' aluminum boat following a scuba dive off Albion, CA.  We surfaced and there was a commercial troller waiting for us to surface.  A rogue wave hit our boat while we were down and it was barely afloat.  The troller pulled our boat on board and gave us a ride back to Ft. Bragg.  The three of us then hitchhiked with the boat back to Albion in  our wetsuits.

What a day that was.

fishsniffer,
 I am there some where!!
that site is a bit harder for me to navigate, as I am used to this type of forum board, and that one seems top "hide" posts. I can't seem to even go back and find mice elf on that site!
I only visit rarely for that reason mostly, and the fact that I know quite a few of the locals on that board already.
