quick update:

First off, excuse my language but FUCK me running! Shitty conditions again?!?!

We will have a back up plan of trolling for Salmon on the Coos. I will monitor conditions and make a decision on Tuesday. Plan to pack gear for salmon just in case. It will be a real pain in the ass if we have to go to plan B!

Got a lot of nice prizes that will be awarded no matter what happens so please still show up. We will have a good time and raise a bunch of money for Heroes on the Water!

On the poop water, it will be cleared up by the tourney and doesn't affect where we fish any way, unless the swell is ten feet and we can't get out of the bay...

8 days to go!

Roy, I voted no and I use a motor, but I just pay then fish tournys but I disqualify myself before going out. I'm still allowed then to spend a day fishing and enjoy the company without having an advantage and the motor is an advantage. I could not fish near as far or as long without it. But the contest part of the tournament should be kept nonmotorized as is to keep thecontest portion even. I can still eat and partake of drawings and most of all still contribute. Art

Amongst this group of handicaps? That's like allowing electric wheelchairs at the Special Olympics!
I voted no!

On a serious note... I would genuinely welcome any and all if they can meet the qualification requirements and rules. I would question the safety of an individual that would need a motor assisted kayak as I doubt they can self-rescue anyway.

I  can self rescue and insure that by doing it several times a year. When I cant do it withbgear on I will quit the kayak fishing and sit on the beach. Motor only insures that Ican get tothe beach, without calling the CG cuz I'm wore out. No wheelchair. Art

Looking forward to seeing you, Tex! Here's hoping things lay down a bit before the tourney, and that the salmon will be biting in the bay either way. :)

i'd rather fish disqualified and you guys just fish and not be concerned about me. I really figure any drawing prizes will be good and the meal and company will be great. Lets just do this and tall ignore what I'm fing. Really wish we could go out ofsunset as I've never madeSimpson and knew Icould with my assist.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Simpsons is going to be doable this year, even with motorized assist. Most of us would feel privileged to fish with you anyway.

The long range range forecast actually looks a little better then it did a couple days ago!!! but in case we do have to switch to plan B...

A quick rundown of what the plan B would entail. It will have to be pretty bad to go to plan B because it will be a real PITA if we have to switch to Trolling for Salmon. Like I said before I will monitor the conditions and make a decision on Tuesday night or Wednesday, I don't want to make a decision too soon.

Anyway, if we do switch to plan B the launch will  be at the BLM boat ramp on the north spit 3 miles down trans pacific hwy(first left after big green bridge going north). There is a large parking area with some room to have the festivities. There is no launch fee.

High tide is at about 7:15 am at the bridges and if we launch at 5:30 it should give plenty of time troll for a few hours at least. Also the tide exchange is very low so you should be able to troll back and forth at the chip pile or between the bridges.

The preferred method of fishing is trolling with a slider or spreader with a dropper weight in the 4-6 oz. range followed by a flasher with a 3-4 foot mooching rig with plug cut herring.

The scoring would switch to single heaviest fish. The legal  limit is two fish, wild or fin clipped Chinook or only fin clipped Coho which you probably wont catch at this time, but you never know.

Again, I really hope we don't have to do plan B but pack some gear for it just in case.
See ya on the water..

Forgive me if I'm out of line with this one, but given the current conditions and how it's trending for the weekend, I think plan B is a better call. I think it will be safer/more enjoyable for everyone. Yeah, it will be a pain in the ass for organizing the event and moving everything to the BLM ramp, but the conditions are far better catered to fishing in the bay for salmon.

The wind will be down in the morning and the small tide swing will be in our favor.

I know people got out and had fun last year despite the terrible conditions, I know that we aren't being forced to fish the conditions either, but it seems slightly irresponsible to give the green light to fishing Sunset just for the sake of convenience.

Granted it is a little early and things MIGHT improve, I honestly think that is just wishful thinking. The reality is that it's probably not going to get any better.

I know that Roy said he would make the call Tuesday or Wednesday, and I respect his decision. It's still a little early, so I guess all I can do is wait like everyone else. I just wanted to express my thoughts on the matter.
