I think Chris has some good points. I'll be happy enough either way but I might have more fun in the bay.

If we fish the bay, will the scoring be the same? I hope so. It's very doable to catch RF, lings, perch, flat fish, salmon, etc. SW of the trestles. With plan B where's the launch point/check in & what will the boundaries be? Low slack is about 11:30m looking at about a 4 foot exchange with probable north wind on the after noon incoming. Where we gonna do the potluck & awards? Definitely a pita. For what it's worth, my vote is Sunset.

Here it is again Paul, I posted it on the previous page...

The long range range forecast actually looks a little better then it did a couple days ago!!! but in case we do have to switch to plan B...

A quick rundown of what the plan B would entail. It will have to be pretty bad to go to plan B because it will be a real PITA if we have to switch to Trolling for Salmon. Like I said before I will monitor the conditions and make a decision on Tuesday night or Wednesday, I don't want to make a decision too soon.

Anyway, if we do switch to plan B the launch will  be at the BLM boat ramp on the north spit 3 miles down trans pacific hwy(first left after big green bridge going north). There is a large parking area with some room to have the festivities. There is no launch fee.

High tide is at about 7:15 am at the bridges and if we launch at 5:30 it should give plenty of time troll for a few hours at least. Also the tide exchange is very low so you should be able to troll back and forth at the chip pile or between the bridges.

The preferred method of fishing is trolling with a slider or spreader with a dropper weight in the 4-6 oz. range followed by a flasher with a 3-4 foot mooching rig with plug cut herring.

The scoring would switch to single heaviest fish. The legal  limit is two fish, wild or fin clipped Chinook or only fin clipped Coho which you probably wont catch at this time, but you never know.

Again, I really hope we don't have to do plan B but pack some gear for it just in case.
See ya on the water..
Roy

Catching rockfish, perch, flatfish or a ling in the bay is doable, so why change the scoring? If the wind is blowing at Sunset it'll be blowing just as hard or harder on the North spit.

I vote to keep it at Sunset. The conditions couldn't possibly be any worse than past years, and besides, they add another element of challenge to the event. Also, I am camping at Bastendorff and don't want to have to drive back through town and north to get to the fishing spot!

Conditions were bad enough last year that you didn't stay out very long, conditions this year could very well be worse.
I don't remember what the forecast "was", but it sure turned to absolute crap last year regardless.

I'm hoping for way better conditions as I have a newbie with me and this will be his first salty experience in a kayak.
Don't want it to be his last.

That, and I'm sure your camping location is going to be a deciding factor on where the event takes place.     ::)
Seriously please leave the "Easy Button" at home.

I'm not voting in favor of either plan, as I am prepared for both.  I'm looking forward to some camping with friends and family, and fishing with the  NWKA crew.

See ya on the water!   :icon_salut:

See, that's what I'm thinking.  Even though Friday was a stellar day last year, it turned to shit in a hand bag on Saturday.
Off shore wind, awkward current, heavy fog, stupid swell/period.  And this year's forecast is showing to be a bit worse.

Hopefully with any luck it will miss the forecast and turn out to be gravy!

We can hope and pray, but it is never a good sign when the Friday forecast looks exactly like the same 30mph shit show Saturday does.

I already had to back out of my camping plans down there for the weekend due to niece and nephews birthday partys and other conflicting things.....these conditions could be a deal breaker for me.

There's been no wind until 11am-noon in the bay. I fished from Ferry Road to the BLM ramp today. It was beautiful. I want to fish Sunset just as much as the next guy, but its not looking promising.
