If you want a kayak fishing show watch Rudy's ultralight video. He does a Harlem Globetrotters move behind the back. Worth viewing.  I can't comment on Pacific Warriors since I did not watch.

not interested. I think it takes away from the reason I've been hitting the Pacific for the last 20 years.

Though I don't consider the show to be film-as-lit by any stretch, I enjoyed it.  I like seeing the personalities behind the fishing rods and I think that it gives the non-yak fishing public a chance to see both the struggle and reward our pursuit offers.  And, of course, Hawaii is a very camera friendly venue.

I enjoyed watching the fishing, but don't care for the producers trying to create drama where there is none and doesn't need to be. I've watched a ton of the Aqua Hunters you tubes and I personally like them better just because of the true fishing.
Compared to other shows on Discovery, it sure beats watching a bunch of stupid dirty naked people trying to deal with mosquito bites on their ass.

Anyone else notice that when they switch from one view to another the angler is using a different reel during the fight?  In one frame the reel will be gold and the next it will be black.

How many episodes before one kayaker is hooked on drugs and two others get in a fight with one another?

Haha! Yes & yes! Glad I wasn't the only one! Pointed it out to my wife as well.

Aside from the drama Discovery has to add for the general public, I thought it was entertaining. Hoping it'll only get better as the filming progresses.

How long till there is violence over fishing holes . like Hawaiians attack tourist trying to surf in spots locals consider theirs.
Or when Jon Jon tries to go fish the big island I predict the others who consider it their spot will give him drama.

I'm glad someone else gets it. So many reality TV shows about Alaska in our small circle your bound to know how much BS is put into Reality TV. Problem is people love it. Instead of folks you would like to spend the day fishing with they will end up National Inquirer fodder.

It's nice to see kayak fishing on tv, but these discovery producers literally fucked up a wet dream.

Right?  :dontknow:

I'm not entirely sure what audience they were aiming for?

I don't think we are the audience.  We already know that the best drama is to hop in a yak and go be the show.  Seeing the blue water and the first glimpse of a tuna coming up 30-40' below the yak certainly gets me excited for the next trip though.  Did anyone else think the 20lb needlefish was a bit of a stretch?  I'm glad the show exists and I'll keep watching in hopes that the concept develops and "finds its way".  You would think that covering the Makahiki pro division would be the competition angle they are after.

I haven't seen the show.  I'm visiting Maui for the first time in three years and the participation level is noticeably different.

Many beaches this weekend had guys launching or landing yaks rigged for fishing.

The shop I visit every trip has always had mostly windsurf and kite gear.  This year half of their hard goods area was occupied by Hobies.

While I was having dinner in Paia tonight a truck drove by with 5 adventures/Rev 16 in the bed.

Almost every fishing kayak I've seen here has been a Hobie.

He hand lined it at the end,  so it was easily 20 pounds lol.

I 💟 Paia.
×2

I keep hoping to catch an impromptu Willy Nelson show at Charley's, but I've never been lucky.  Missed him by two weeks one year.
