This was on the beach this morning just above the surf.  I have no idea.  It's about 12 inches long.  Anybody have a clue?

I'm going to say it's a straggler, but normally you see the half hurried in the sand looking up.

Thanks Brian.  Is "half hurried" a name of a fish?  I googled half hurried and didn't see any fish.

I think he meant to say you find them half burried ...

I meant "half buried", but my tablet didn't correct my spelling the way I would have hoped.

Crap, it also corrected my fish name... it's a stargazer, not a straggler.

Cool. Never seen one of those before. Now the real question is how good are they to eat? ;D

More importantly what do you offer up as bait and what depths and area are you going to target to get one on the hook?

No my deacon rockfish post is correct.
It seems the tablet wins the autocorrect wars if I attempt to post at 11:45 pm.

You misunderstand oh great "deacon" of fish from NWKA, I was calling you "deacon" and pointing out the auto corrected stargazer , should have clarified a little more
