Regarding the Captain's Bag contents. I have not yet figured out what the "towel" with NA logo on it is. ? shammy, towel, used in place of a gunny sack to keep fish fresh? anyone figured out what it is.

It could be used as an emergency chocolate starfish polisher.   ;D

It's a polyester/rayon pack towel.  It's very absorbent and light weight.  It's similar in function to a shammy (Chamois leather) but not quite as nice.

I thought it was a pretty good addition. I put mine in with my backup clothing. If I ever get soaked, I'll have a way to dry myself off before putting dry clothes back on. (Or at least put it on the seat so my wet butt doesn't soak through on the drive back home)
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

The Pack towel is one of the best seller for us.  We added it for folks to add to their Hypo kits or with extra clothes.  These are great lightweight high absorbent towels to use when camping, fishing, whatever.

Rules outlining these kind of things will be more explicit next year for sure.

As well as those that are clearly written and need to be adhered to more for safety than anything else.
Such as to DQ those that choose to ignore the proper Oregon ocean immersion gear.

Yes, I saw way too many folks in shorties, and T' shirts out there again this year.
The morning check in crew, and or the safety boats should have made this happen at some point.

Next years ORC should only get better with all the passion here.  8)
+1. No immersion gear = disqualification & land yer own damn fish.  :-*

I think we need to put an asterix next the winners name on the trophy plaque?  Kind of like the asterix next to the PED assisted home run records of the late 90's.

*Mom landed his fish.  ::)

Can we get a rule that prohibits John Hayashibara from pressuring anglers into swigging Jameson at the campground?  ;D
He doesn't have to pressure me.  ;D

Sorry, going to have to disagree with you here.  Quit whining and let John do what John does well!    :tongue3:

What were the water temperatures out there?

My FF was reading 57-58 all day.
Science says???? An hour is longer then I think anyone in a group will still be in the water. Not saying it's wrong or right and I definitely wear my wetsuit in the open ocean.

Good point. I get tired of the immersion gear witch hunt. I don't care - I wear a drysuit - but I don't understand why it's the #1 safety concern. I'd much rather deal with a very experienced kayaker in board shorts than a newbie in a drysuit. Just my two cents...
Missing the point, imo. I've pulled experienced folks out of the water who were freezing their asses off because they weren't dressed to prevent hypothermia, including those in drysuits w/o thermal protection. Experience doesn't make anyone bullet proof.

Well said, Steve.

Mark, I love you to pieces man, but I'm with Steve on this one. You need to let up and cut the boys at NA some slack. They worked hard for our NWKA brothers, HOW, and the local charity. They have families and full time jobs that get in the way of getting us immediate responses. Like a lot of years past, things could have been smoother but I believe they are doing the best job they can. I'm sure they will work on improving next year but overall I'd say this year's ORC was a huge success.
Agree for the most part. The beer pick up, delivery & return could have gone smoother but, I'm willing to let that go as long as it's rectified next year. Thanks Josh Rogers for the keg return. My recommendation to the powers that be: if a member volunteers to do something, graciously accept the offer. Didn't the NA folks get paid to do this? If not, sounds like they need some Union representation.  >:D

  I simply can not Not resond......damhik  >:D >:D >:D

  1st --- I d hope that everyone's questions have been answered about ORC 2015 . ??? ??? ::) ::)
2nd---It sounds like all who attended had a great time And that is what ORC is really all about. Having a great time at this gathering of the clan.
3rd---With 122 registered participants this year @ $50 per person that equals a $6100 gross . That's a nice chunk of change. Though I don't know (cause I wasn't there) with the spaghetti feed and Sunday breakfast besides personal donations--- I hope lots of money was raised for HOW and Neighbors for Kids.
Of course there are additional expenses incurred for putting on ORC...gas for Next Adventures van, food costs, power boats fuel costs, and salaries for those running the show. Nothing is free in life.....
4th--- Sounds like some new or revised rules will be coming for future events. Clarification and transparency will help make the next ORC even more successful. And I believe we all want to improve as much as possible.
5th--- It has been a little over a month since ORC 2015. I "officially " am volunteering to help with ORC 2016 in any capacity the organizers see fit. Please  let me know how I can make ORC 2016 better ??? If I need to make the 300 mile RT to Portland -- I am willing to do that to be involved with the planning committee.
6th--- I'm still working on getting my medical conditions fixed. I will make every effort possible to be there next year. Will I then have any room to question what's going on and make suggestions that won't ruffle feathers ??? All of the many comments I have made about ORC this year are because I care a lot about this event. If that is wrong--- fuck it --- I'll just not say anything and let others take the reins. But I will be watching......

If all of us work to make improvements for next year--- maybe we , as a group , can smooth out some of the many rough spots that seem to occure this year. I am willing to help--- are you ???

 I am Mark
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Chief Transparency Officer...code name Mr. Cellophane?

I respect your obvious passion for this event.  I hope your medical status allows you to partake in 2016.
