Headed to Seward to fish for Silvers. The Fishing Report from a few days ago says silvers are around Caines Head and Pony Cove. Anyone have additional info or more current info? I am headed down tonight and plan to fish Sat and Sun. We've been fishing WG and Homer this summer (hubby got a nice 20 lb king off his Kayak last weekend in Homer) so this will be our first trip to Seward this year.

I'd love to jet down there and join the fun, but after cutting my hand while pulling an electrical cover plate I need to let the stitches set up at least 48 hrs before spending time wet.

I did hear from a friend who said silvers were spotty around Caines head earlier this week:  they got a few with a bit of work, and heard that folks 10 miles farther out had a lot better success.   Sounds a bit faster than when S and I were down there for the 4th / 5th - we got two to the kayaks, lost a couple more, but that was early.  If I was there I would probably head direct to Caines head and peek around the point to see if the wind and wave were agreeable for onward exploration...  or if the wind is wrong - Derby Cove is along the way.  It was near Derby I was seeing fish on sonar and caught a really nice dinner silver a couple weeks ago.

If you are new to Seward - expect some South Wind chop in the late afternoon, it commonly blows up a bit.  If bad get west, you get some shelter from Caines head for a few miles.

Thanks AKRider! Michilutiiq and I are headed to Seward now and will report how the fishing goes. We've fished silvers in Seward for a few years and have experienced first hand the wind you mentioned. Ouch. Makes for a loooong trip back to shore. Weather report is good for this weekend so hopefully we catch.

Wishing you a fast recovery on your hand!

We opted to camp at Miller's Landing (Never again! #ghetto... ).  We're hitting Caines Head in the morning, weather looks good for pushing out a ways south. No way we make 10 miles!  But hope to improve out chances...I may troll all the way back to Lowell Point...we'll see.  Will post a report on Sun or Monday.

So silvers are definitely feel and far between.  3 fishers,  2 silvers. All the pinks you could want were available... I had a nice silver hit and fight like crazy... A lot of fun.  Mine and my sister's in law were caught on hoochies. Both around Caines Head North Beach.

Pinks were going crazy for a pink Pixie.  Overall a great day on the water,  but not a good silver fishing day.

Tons of fish in the bay, but seemed be mostly pinks. Silvers are still farther out. We will try again in another week or two. Nothing but Polluk were biting on herring.

Thanks for the reports!  I love kayaking there, and I am totally looking forward to some killer days fishing in AUG.  We will be there for several days in mid-AUG for sure 14th-16th.  I will l likely be down a couple times 'prospecting' for silvers sooner, to gauge their arrival between now and then.

Not sure that it will work for us this year, but I do want to get a water taxi out and do some camping/exploring/fishing down that way sometime.

I'm in for a September water taxi trip.

We are taking the new Zodiac to Seward this coming weekend if all goes well. I'll give a report when we get there.
