hmmmmm.... last time I talked to WDFW about that area, they referred me to the Puyallup Tribal folks, as it's supposed to be under their jurisdiction. Need a few minutes to sort thru old email......

Yeh, here's why I don't throw much away...hope it helps;

Good Morning Mr. Walter,

You are correct about the lack of information, there isn't much. All that property is private, however the levee is managed by the county. I spoke with one of our Enforcement officers and he mentioned that you can fish from the levee. Russ Ladley works for the Puyallup Tribe and has more knowledge about that area than most. He would be a person to talk with. His office is at the Puyallup Tribe Diru Creek hatchery on Pioneer Rd. in Puyallup. I don't have his number, but you should be able to find it on the internet. I wish I could provide you more information, but without WDFW properties in the area, we don't have a lot of info. One thing I do need to point out is that if you find a way down there and are fishing, remember, if you are downstream of the 11th St. Bridge, you are going to be fishing under the Marine Area 11 rules and upstream of the bridge are Puyallup River rules.

If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Subject: Puyallup waterway access?

Hello
Am looking for bank access to the Puyallup river mouth. What I'm finding on Google maps is the Puyallup Waterway which seems to be part of the Port of Tacoma complex. But there's not much more information.
Do you have any information you can share, or even a non government point of contact that might be able to share details?
Thanks in advance
Rich

It is a great area because the launch is in great shape, the parking is free, it is secure (never had anything stolen but there are a few weirdos down there). As mentioned in your post before, if you kayak over there, snug up to the levee and cast towards the mill in the area where the water kind of eddies around, it is money, especially at high tide. I might just have to load up gear tonight and head down there tomorrow. High tide is at 5:27 so the morning time could be money...Anyone else?

Very tempting, but the wife wants to go try her hand at fishing again so we're heading up to the beach at Point No Point, see if we can entice something onto a hook for her.  If I can get *her* hooked on fishing, maybe I can get her into a kayak one of these days too  ;D

Gave it a go last night.  Picked one up, had another one on but lost it on a jump.  All the info on here was so helpful and set me up for success.  Thanks for sharing!  I fished the incoming tide. Didn't get anything until it switched and started going out.  That also coincided with the evening so it not sure which had the greater impact.

In any event, perfect place for kayaks.  Great launch and at least on a Thursday night plenty of parking.  We will see how it is on Sunday.

By the by, I am using my kokanee rod to fish for these.  it is perfect (Okuma SST) and I would highly recommend it for making for a great fight!

Thanks again for this great site and the willingness to share info.
It was dark by the time I got off the water so only kitchen shots. :)

Thanks

Thea's Park.  (Oops thought I put that in my post)  May try again on Sunday or Monday depending on weather and schedule.

Very nice, W!  When you put in at the park, did you roll down the ramp and go off the dock, or down those concrete steps and the cobble/gravel/boulder "beach"?

I might be able to make a Sunday outing.  PM me if you go.

Cool.  I'd probably roll down to the dock with mine, since I've got the cart and it'd be a durn sight less weight than the steps would entail for mine...

I will be down there Sunday morning launching from that gravel area on west end of park.  Especially easy from there with a second set of hands.
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

Cool!

Looks like plans have firmed up and I will be down there with my son as well.  Look forward to seeing some of you and putting some names faces to posts.  I suspect the rain will move some fish in the direction of the river!  Of course a number of other boats will be thinking the same thing.  Hopefully parking will be manageable.

I was looking at the map again, and it made me wonder, what it would be like to round the corner and paddle up the river just a bit on a low tide and fish the obvious channel.  Hmmmm -  might be an interesting uncrowded option to try for a future trip.

If I am out on the water already,  I will be hovering around within a hundred yards or so.  If I see someone over by the gravel area getting ready to unload a kayak, I will come over to help.
