Here's my first attempt at a GoPro vid.  I launched the wherry at Pacific City Sat July 25 and got a few Coho about 5 miles out where some dory guys had found a patch of fish.  You'll see how landing Coho is a bit of a challenge.  The boat is tippy, so leaning over to net a fish is not an option.

Rockfish were cooperative just outside the rock as well.  No lings.

Sorry about the big drop of rainwater on the lens.  Any advice on how to prevent that?

I rolled the boat in the shorebreak on the way in.  Everything was tied down and in drybags, so no harm done save for loss of sunglasses.  Unfortunately I didn't have the GoPro on for the wipeout.

That thing really looks like fun.

Like Mojo says, that thing would probalby be a lot easier to land backward than forward.  Heck, most of the time that's the way I land my kayak.

Bust thru a wave then paddle back in on the top.

That boat looks pretty cool! Did you build it yourself?

Really cool video and adventure - thank you for sharing it. I'd love to fish with you sometime out there and see your boat in action and hear more about it. I've got that exact same flasher; maybe I'll have good luck with it at PC this year too :)

As far as the rain on your GoPro, I've used Windex on mine and it helps a bit, but mostly I just try to keep it within reach and wipe it off regularly. I've considered a little umbrella type thing but haven't built anything yet.

Keep the videos coming!

Beautiful boat! Is that the Pygmy Boats Wineglass Wherry?  I would love to build one, but they won't just sell the plans.

Yes, it is the Wineglass Wherry by Pygmy.  I built from their kit and invested about 200 hours, including paint and varnish.  She weighs just 95 pounds, which means easily cartoppable.

I've surf launched a dozen times and that was my first broach.  Normally I roll out of the boat once I reach 2 or 3 feet of water, and grab the boat while the final shorebreak rolls by.  This time I tried to row all the way to the beach, which was a mistake.

As far as rowing backwards through the surf, she's essentially a double ender under the waterline, so I'm not sure if that would help. But I will certainly try it.

I've tried Rain-x. It seemed to actually make things worse. I think that stuff is only designed for fresh water, not salt water.

I'm probably doing something wrong. Maybe I'll give it another shot.

Lick, Lick, Dunk.  That's what a professional photographer once told me to do.

Could also be the housing lens being made of a different material through their various models/year.  Sometimes people just put it on and rub it in, and don't follow the directions, which has bad results.

Could be the salt vs. fresh makes a difference. I was using it to help with rain and it seemed to help a bit, although I haven't bothered to re-apply.
