Bummer about the salmon but it sounds like some fun was had. It's been too long - I want to get out there soon. I really wish that I had more room on the tandem for crab traps.

Crab Hawks are very kayak friendly and a blast to use.
I'll bring my three Crab Hawks down to Sunset with me and show you my setup since we will be camping side by side.
Then if you want to rig some up, everything should be available at the Coos Bay Bi-Mart.  Cheap too!

You really only need room for one trap. I've had no trouble getting 2+ limits in one trap with no more than a 2 hour soak. Nice big ones, too. I was fortunate the first time to get some help from ThreeCreeks. The trap was so stuffed and HEAVY I couldn't get it over the side of the kayak. Yesterday there were only about 18 legal size in my trap.

It was nice seeing everyone out there on the 6th. Sorry I accidentally turned my radio off and made people worry about me. I fished for salmon for a few hours between 120 and 180fow and didn't get any action. It was a little annoying clearing jellies from my line constantly. The rockfish were biting well for me and some of the black rockfish seemed huge on Thursday. At one point in the day, I got on top of a school of canaries and that was fun. I kept my one and it tasted just like the black rockfish.
The most exciting part of the day was pulling a giant octopus up off the floor. It had my jig in its beak and had to weigh well over 30 pounds. Its head was bigger than mine. It let go of the jig as I was scrambling for a camera. Other than that, a lot of underlings and one decent keeper ling at the end of the day came to the boat. It was a great day with light wind, no surf and a small swells.
Nobaddays, that is one hell of a nice ling you got out there and I love the photo! Congrats.

Sweet! Nice haul. In my experience that's a pretty good day... maybe I need to crab with you. :)
