Well as the adage goes "test drive a lot of kayaks and find out what works for you." Some people like to paddle, some like to pedal. Some like a fast unstable ride while others like a stable yak that goes fast enough.

From what I've heard the Prowlers do just fine in a lot of conditions. Probably the favorite yak among paddle yakkers. A nice all around fishing yak. The Hobie Revo is also a favorite among Hobie riders in that it does well in a lot of conditions. Another all around fishing yak. The Outback on the other hand can be used in the sound but it can be a bit tough to handle when conditions get rough.

Test 'em out and find what works for you.

You mean Prowler 13?  Don't think the Trident 13 will be for sale in large numbers until next year.

I know of at least one vendor that has the Trident 11 & 13 in-stock and ready to ship.

Hmmm,

That's like trying to compare apples and squids.

Get the Rev*, (not the outback). There is nothing not to like about it other than the price.

*Please note: My opinion is my own and is worth exactly what your paying for it. ;D

I have an 07  Revo and there are a couple of issues to not love that are common to all of the Hobie Mirage machines that I know FFTW will validate: 1) no reverse (without paddling), and 2) they don't track well without a rudder.

That said, I *love* my Revo. It's fast, stable, does well in rough conditions, and primarily because the hands-free peddling has advantages for fishing that are to numerous to list. The Revo is also of a size that I can load on top of my car by myself. If you can afford it, I highly recommend it.

A few notes on these. 1. It's a kayak not a car! :D Really though, when do you need to go backwards? I can think of only few situations and even then, the paddle's always right within reach. 2. The reason why it doesn't track well without the rudder is because it's designed to turn with one. If it had a hull w/ hard chines and a skeg-like stern it would have a tough time turning with the rudder. Simply put, it's made to work with the mirage drive and rudder. Take one of the two away and it won't perform like it was designed to. BTW I've pulled the drive and left the rudder down on my Adventure and it has paddled aweeeeesome.

I didn't mean to kick your dog, Z.  ;) The fact is the Hobies have these issues and it doesn't matter why they have them. If a potential buyer is looking for a maneuverable boat that can double as a peddle or paddle they should be aware of them, and they're not obvious until you spend some time in the boat so it's worth pointing them out. Note that I *HIGHLY* recommend the boat. But anyone considering one should be aware of their downsides.

Ha ha! No worries. All the yaks will have their advantages and disadvantages to them. Just wanted to point out some thoughts. Enjoy the Revo! Gotta get one myself.

What Tupperware said----
I paddled the Outback and the Revo at Hobie Northwest, thanks Dan-----no contest, the Outback was sluggish compared to the revo (Though it might be a better river boat, more staorage and wider beam).  So I bought the Revo, the more I pedal it the more I love it!!
THe Turbo fins are highly recommended, not only for the extra speed, but the slower cadence pedalling.

So why did you sell your Tarpon?

not to mention u go so much faster and can use your hands for other things while your moving....hmmm maybe it is worth the extra 700 or so
