OK - Weather looks like it may cooperate, so I am loading the truck.  After missing last weekend for lots of reasons, it's time to get a line wet.

I am headed to Seward for the long weekend, should have my daughter along for at least one of the days so may stay in close on Friday, and I'll see if I can get her out on the water.  Look for me to launch off of Lowell Point, if you see a pair of red and yellow Hobie Outbacks you'll know its us.

I am hearing the silvers have moved up a bit closer - and it SHOULD be good by now so  I am hoping for at least one good day to pick up a limit... I need some more salmon!   I'll get a derby ticket just in case.

It has been almost a month since I have taken the kayak out so I will be in Seward this weekend to do some fishing.

I fished Seward this weekend, hoping to get a fish worth entering in the derby. didn't even come close! Although it was my first two silvers from the kayak. The first was 4lb 11oz and second was 6lb 8o. In addition I caught 20 plus pinks and way to many sables. Trolled from Lowell to Caines head. The fish still seem pretty deep.

Planning on heading down tomorrow to fish Friday and Saturday, looking for company for Friday. I'll be on a yellow OK Prowler 13.

Miller's landing only has tent site with no vehicle.  Thinking about one day rental...I'm surprised they even have vacancy.  Let me know if you guys want to take water taxi to Caines Head at 9am Saturday.  Since I haven't kayak fish much in Seward area, I wonder if it's worth it to get water taxi service.

Please swing by to say hi... I'll be the olive yak moving from boat to boat with a net or a knife or bait or cookies or... You name it.  Bring me beer!   :-)

Fishing report is short today.  Lots of sablefish, cod, and pinks on the near side of Tonsina Cr.   Didn't find the silvers though.   /sigh.

Kid on the beach was talking smack about nailing the silvers ... It was all bull though.  His silvers were all yesterday out by Bear Glacier on a charter.

Got pretty choppy by late afternoon, so off the water before 5.  Hoping for more flat water in AM TO RUN FARTHER Toward Caines Head.

Hoping others found them.   Saw Joe and Tom out thrashing the water with us... Last I heard they hadn't found silvers either.

Couple dozen pink. Kept three dozen sablefish. Zero silvers. The water was like bath water!!! With his new drysuits, my kid swam in the ocean more than he fished. This temp is crazy!!!!

I'll  be interested to see how you do. I fished last week and no silvers at Allison Pt.  One shore fishing noted catching a Silver 2 days prior.

We fished a bit Fri & sat.  No silvers here either. Cod & pinks.  Didn't see a lot of action on the boats around us either.  Still... My 8 yr old had the thrill of her life catching her first salmon on a yak (a pink)... She was so excited. W had to keep it and cook it (the dogs ate it). A memory to last both her and me a lifetime.  So thankful the water was calm.

Saw Kardinal behind us as we were leaving town. And another Hobie ("Badger"?)  on the highway.  Wish I'd seen you guys out there.

It was another pink day for us, though we lost two fish that delivered amazing takedowns we never got an id on them.

I did chat with Badger, an older gent who fished largely near Lowell /  Tonsina.

We made it out near Caines Head.   Lots of boats.   Not much action.  Put my radio on scan to catch the chatter-- no one claiming to be on the silvers.  Complaints of working for 1 or 2 (deep), though one boat claimed to see another pick up "a dozen".

Water temps out by Derby Cove and Caines head were around 63 degrees.  HOT.   Maybe surface temps were pushing fish really deep?

I was able to make it a long weekend and arrived in Seward on Thursday night. Friday morning early the lady friend and I departed for Caines Head, it quickly got too hot for the dry suit top so I ended up rolling down the top half. We did end up putting 3 silvers on the stringer but 4 total to the kayaks. Long story short, the gf got a nice 10+ lber had it in her lap flopping, pretty much hugged it and it plopped right back in the water... she lost her mind after  that. There was no consistency from the depth we were getting them at, the gf was getting them virtually on the surface (5ft down) and I was catching them 75-125 ft. Bycaught about 30 pinks all day, managed to stay away from the sable fish. Did talk to a lady who was with her husband and kids at the Ruins by Caines Head, they had quite the fleet of Hobies, was very jealous!

The second day I was stuck on shore for the early portion of the day, I let my mom try out kayak angling. It was her first time on a vessel in her 18 years in AK, glad it was a kayak! She had hoot catching pinks and the gf did a great job of showing her the ropes. She insisted on keeping one of her pinks, and when we cut it open, it was chalked full of herring! From shore, some friends were just catching sablefish by the dozen and I did spot some of the forum guys, Kardinal_84  as well one guy who had a rainbow of hobies on a trailer I thought I recognized from the forum (michilutiiq?). Didnt get a chance to chat with any of them though.. I was able to get out that evening and pick up another two silvers between Lowell and Tonsina.

All in all, slow fishing; very hard earned silvers. I was talking to the Derby staff, I mentioned I caught my 8.75 that I entered from a Kayak. They said they have talked about adding a kayak division to the Silver Salmon Derby in the past. So possibly, if everyone expressed interested it could be implemented in the near future.

Hey!  Dang,  I should have walked over.  That was my wife (uuqutiiq) and daughter who came over and chatted with you. I was focused on getting our boats ready and wanted to get on the water.

Glad to see someone with silvers.  At the time we saw you guys, we were just getting ready to go.  You gave us optimism... Until the ocean dashed it out of us.

Sorry I missed the opportunity to talk.  Great news about the possible kayak division.
