I finally have enough saved up and now that work is winding down, I will be doing a lot of yak fishing soon. Is anyone willing to sell a used Hobie? I don't want to get a new one, but I will if I have to.

Thanks!

Are you looking for one in Alaska ?

Or for when you come back down to the lower 48 ?

I might know of a used Outback ????
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

I would prefer to get one in AK so that I can use it before I come down to the lower 48... but if I can't get one here used, I might get one down there. Where is the one you know of?

Try to demo a 2015 Hobie, which will have the new lawn-chair style seats, and an earlier Hobie, which will have the stiffened nylon seats.  If you don't like the seats in pre-2015 kayaks, you'll have to spend the bucks to get a new kayak.  If the pre-2015 seats are fine, you can save some money by buying a used kayak.

Another feature to watch for is the transducer pocket, which is found in 2013 and later Hobie kayaks.  This is a major advantage, as it makes it real easy to mount a transducer in a completely protected location.  Before you buy a pre-2013 kayak, think hard about how you're going to mount a transducer.  I think it's worth spending some extra money to get a used kayak with a transducer pocket.

When checking out a used kayak, be sure to determine if it has turbo fins and a sailing rudder, because you're definitely going to want to have those.  If you find a used kayak which doesn't have this equipment, the price should reflect the fact that the first thing you should do is buy and install the turbo fins and the sailing rudder.

i agree with all of the above except for the transducer comment. the foam puck (and related) methods of mounting a transducer are foolproof, quick, cheap, easy and effective.

Having tried my wife's 2015 with the new seat, I am half tempted to take a hit on my gently used 2014 and trade up.  Problem is that the local dealer was sold out and backordered until SEPT at the earliest, so even if I had the cash and did it wouldn't help you until late in the year.   FYI - Another difference I noted between our two - hers runs a bit dryer in the foot-well where the drive unit mounts.  Mine tends to run with water around my heels when I am not under pedal power, hers tends to stay drier by an inch or so.   (not our weight differences, hers just floats higher by an inch in the front)  I can't visually spot any hull difference in the lower hull, but haven't put a tape measure to them yet to confirm a hull change.

Having said all that I won't know for sure until my Macgyver garage project to upgrade the seat is tested.   I may have found a way to retrofit a stadium seat into the 2013/14 model without modifying any plastic or blocking the crotch-hatch... watch for a post on that later if it works.

GL finding a good used one!

I have my wife's Hobie Sport that I might part with...if you're interested. Purchased in 2009ish with very little use...never fished out of.  It's red, and unmolested.

I recently bought a used 2012 outback. I like the mirage drive and stability. The seat is terrible and I haven't mounted a ff yet. Now I am wanting a newer model with a nicer seat and the transducer pocket .

How much would you be asking, and where is it?

Here's a photo of the Hobie Sport. The one thing I like is how light it is!  It's got a few small scratches on the bottom side, but nothing deep. It performs as new, and has only been used a handful of times. I always put 303 aerospace protectant on it, which keeps the colors looking rich.

I would like 1200 for it.  It comes with the mirage drive, Hobie paddle, and seat.

Keep in mind this is the older version of mirage drive, that you twist-lock in. Kind of a pain the first time you do it, but you get used to it.

Also, was there a transducer mounted in it?

Those aren't turbo fins or a sailing rudder, right?
