Im definitely not in the "grizzly" section, more like "pencil" section. 6' 155lbs.
I dont trust propel just yet. Plus those drives look infinitely more complex to do self-repairs.
But reverse seems like a game changer for fishing close to structure, and being able to stop at a moments notice.

Paging copperjon (who has one, and has had nothing but an excellent experience w it)

I picked the Revo over the Outback because of speed and cutting through the waves. From what I've seen, it is a little less stable than the Outback but faster. More space in the Outback, no doubt, but I don't carry a lot of gear with me when I'm on the water - just the basics and minimal backup gear.

I'm happy for your purchase! Welcome aboard!

Sold my kayak today, so trying to decide between the slayer propel 13, the outback, and a PA12. Took a PA12 out last week to demo, was able to walk from the front of the yak to the rear without even feeling like I was going to fall overboard, plus I love that seat.  Not sure I want that much weight, the thing is like a mini bass boat, but damn it's stable to fish out of.
I do like the idea of being able to use the prop to sit in one place while fishing, especially since most of my fishing is lakes, along with the W and the big C, along with the channel as primaries.  Plus the propel is $600 cheaper, decisions, decisions.

Has anyone heard of the Propel drive failing? Just seems with a relatively new technology there will always be some kinks to iron out.

On paper, the Outback has a higher payload rating, which might be meaningful for those of us who order from NRS' "Grizzly" collection.

There don't seem to be many Native dealers, nor do I hear much from Propel users in this community. Is it the consensus that these boats are better suited to rivers and calmer saltwater bays like in Florida/Gulf than the PNW ?

The idea of a 10'x33" pedal boat with forward and reverse, and a 400# capacity has me intrigued with the Slayer 10. I'm sure it would be less fun to paddle, but how often does your drive fail ? And if you constrain your surf launches to quieter surf days...

Crabby cabby has a slayer propel.when him and I launched at seaside last year he shot through the good size surf and wide surf zone. I was super impressed.

My wife has a used one that we just bought 2011 if anything fails short of busting the housing, all the parts are replaceable.$800 for a new drive unit.  Just service it regularly and your fine. Take care of your equipment and it will take care of you. Ps. I have had hers going 5mph without breaking a sweat it requires very little speed on the pedals to troll for salmon read my other post.  ;D

My wife has shoulder issues that don't allow her to paddle, she can if needed but not sustainable for any amount of tide so the reverse was the clincher hers is a mariner 12.5 or as she affectionately calls it her pickup truck lots of rear deck space on the older ones.

Now its between the Slayer & Outback.

FYI, if you buy the slayer propel thru AK and go with the package deal you can get the kayak, a paddle and a "fisherman" pfd, for $2392,  includes free shipping.  I have no financial interest in austin kayak, just letting you know.

I knew about the Propel you bought "for your wife", Shannon. I was about to ask which it was. So there's the Slayer 10, Slayer13, and Mariner 12.5. The Slayer 10 has caught my eye as it is meant to weigh in at 55# with the seat and drive out, yet hauls 400# of grizzly and gear. In addition to the Outback vs. Revo vs. Pro Angler.

I tell ya, if I was willing to give up the ghost and trailer the thing, I'd be all Pro Anglered up.

Oh, and has anyone seen anything more about the rumored pedal drive from Wilderness Systems ?

It's going to be a fun winter of pondering and obsessing.

Hey Fred--- when did you become a minimalist ??? That would be a change...from what I've ever seen.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

It has been said before... but the best time you will spend is actually demoing each of the ones you are interested in.  Our opinions don't take into account how you feel when you sit in the kayak.
