For those interested, I'm going to try the Alsea River this mornings on the incoming tide.  The Waldport bay had a collection of boats and bank fishermen tossing lures along the south depression yesterday.  I didn't spend a great deal of time there and I suspect only a few were caught but the stage is set.  A few have been landed in the Yaquina River last weekend.  Two lime green Yaks were on the Waldport bay yesterday around high tide fishing near the hotel.  I'll be using Herring caught a couple of months ago behind a short bus flasher near the bottom.  I'll report what if anything happens.

I'm interested in a report. Alsea has been good to me a number of times but have yet to catch a salmon from the Yaquina. Meanwhile, gotta see if I have any chartreuse/orange spinners.

Blue Fox makes a spinner that is Chartreuse/Orange. They work well here on the coast. Also, check out Nautical Creations on Facebook. They have a huge selection of lures and they are made in Oregon. I believe Black Pug Lures also have the same color combos too.

I just took a little "scouting" drive to the Ward Creek launch of the Willapa River. Met a new kayaker from Westport that had only had his yak in the water one time. He may be joining our ranks as Surfer soon.
In the 15 minutes we were talking, I saw over 20 salmon surface. And this spot is at the top of tide water ( about 12 miles above what WDFW considers Willapa Bay).
I can't fish today or Tuesday--- but you can bet I'll be there on Wednesday. As I pulled out of the parking area--4 sleds were pulling in to fish the incoming tide.
The fish are coming into the rivers  . They want the cooler water and they want it now. Go get 'em............
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

The Chinook were stacked up at the Capitol Lake Fish Ladder today.  According to a volunteer, they had been absent until now.  It appears these fish were late - and they all are busting through at once.

Alsea River,
Just after the Sheriff asked me how long my Yak was and before I could show them my invasive species permit my reel began to sing.  It was a classic Nook attack running long then straight back at my boat.  The officers laughed before they left and told me I didn't need to dig out my permit since I "looked busy". After a couple of runs a Seal nabbed the fish and ran off with a mile of my braided line along with my flasher.  I cut my losses.  A lady hauled one in from the shore along the south side of the river just as high tide turned to slack.  I don't think I'll bother fishing the bay with the Seal nursery, it's just too full of parents teaching their little ones how to catch fish.  It happened last year too.  There were fish caught up stream around Drift Creek and yesterday we had a terrific down pour of rain with ice particles which should help cool the water.
