Got my first salmon off the kayak on Sunday! I was going to make it an ocean day but ended up staying closer and going for salmon on the siletz. Initially I was trying to see if anyone was wanting to go out on Sunday, but most had other plans and I was debating on going or not. I went anyways because it has been awhile since i've took my hobie out and I've been wanting to fish, and I wanted a salmon! I ended up getting there a little later than I was hoping right around high tide, which is good but i wanted to fish more of the incoming tide as well. I put in at a launch off the highway  and got out in the water. I start heading upriver and drop my line and fresh herring out. Within 3 minutes, BAM!!!!! Fish ON!! I thought I snagged a piling or tree but then the head shaking started! Adrenaline shooting through the roof right now and I'm thinking to myself I dont want to loose this fish! He starts running and towing me around! Then he starts heading for the pilings and Im trying my hardest to turn it back so i dont lose this fish on them! I  finally get him away from them and after a little sleigh ride, I was able get him in the net! The joy of catching your first salmon off a kayak! A rush like no other. Fished another 3 hrs and only saw one other fish when there were tons of boats out being labor day weekend. Gotta love when boats go by and are like look this guy is in a kayak. oh wait hes got a fish behind him! lol The expressions on there face when i have a fish and they dont. Priceless. Great day on the water!

Awesome!!!! Great catch!!! Congrats.

A lot of folks think kayak fishing is like fly fishing. A challenge. Or somehow a bigger accomplishment. Well let them keep thinking that way but for me (I have a power boat...at least I think I do since I haven't started it in five years) it's because with a kayak, I catch more fish over the course of a year.

The adrenalin is addictive. I hope you are better prepared than I was to deal with this new found addiction because the only cure and it's temporary is to get another one!!!!!!!!

Aint that the truth!  But wait, there's more.  Every time you catch a salmon in a new area, you get to experience it all over again.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain

 +1   yeah that ^
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent
