I'm thinking about launching there this weekend and I was wondering if a west wind or any other wind or swell direction can make it risky.

I've never been over there but I'm aching to get some halibut and Sunday looks doable. Anyone else headed out there that day?

Also how fast does the tide get ripping there?  I'm assuming it's only worth fishing around slack...

WG is fairly easy.  You are protected from both the South and North.  West is bad but its such a short fetch, it usually doesn't create a problem.  Too many variable to say this is good or bad in general.  Take a look at a page I did for Cook Inlet: https://sites.google.com/site/kayakfishingalaska/locations/cook-inlet

What can happen is it be mirror calm on the water, but a large storm with south wind passed through a day or two before and you can residual swell.  This creates large swells that break on shore.  But once you get opoass those breakers, it is flat calm.  mightbe two three ft swells but super long periods so its not noticeable on thee water.

For Saturday, it looks like max current is about three MPH.  Here is the data from Navionics chart.  This is for a few miles off ANchor Point.

Here's the most recent forecast.  I think it looks do-able but once again, the water moving in different directions can always change it. l

Also when the wind is coming from the south or there are residual swells, I look here.  It's the buoy at the K-bay entrance.  This looks ok too

Update at 11am looks like a turn for the worse.  Spot forecast not shoing at the moment.  There is always a few hours lag between spot and regional forecast.

It's getting your kayak past Turnagain arm that's the problem. Heavy winds they're trying to rip it off my rack

It's supposed to come down overnight but pick back up again Fri night.  New spot forecast only calling 1-2 ft off anchor point Friday.   Should be do-able.

If I can drag myself out of bed at 2am. Hope to hit the low. Wishful thinking launch time is 7am.

So you're waking up in 5 hours? Driving 4 hours...  You deserve your fish,  my friend.  I'll be putting in around 5 pm tomorrow if all holds to my plan (including the weather...)

Also how fast does the tide get ripping there?  I'm assuming it's only worth fishing around slack...
Also to reiterate what Rudy has mentioned in previous "tutorials", the current will continue to move for at least an hour after the documented high or low. For example if the tide book says low at 0900, expect to be drifting south until around 1000.
Fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga except I get to kill something.
