I was thinking about fishing the Columbia this coming weekend, but the creel report from WADFW for Buoy 10  shows this for the first 10 days:  Anglers 384, chinook 9 (8 in the last 2 days) and coho 0... talk about slow !!!  This is bad news for
those who predicted a big run of fall chinook in the columbia.  Guess I'll fish local this weekend, but things are slow around Vashon also. Friend Nathan got a 17.5# king yesterday---one fish in last 5 trips . A little better success at Point Defiance and Point Dalco this week.  I caught only dogfish  Monday evening in Quartermaster harbor, a lot of fish on the depthfinder at 30 feet, apparently all dogs.

Thanks for the post KT. Those are some terrible numbers! I know what you mean though, things have been going really slow for all the talk about "records" we've got so far from the WDFW.

I haven't been posting my reports, I know my bad, but the salmon fishing has been in the dumps. On monday I had a beeeautiful day, herring jumping everywhere, dolphins, the ff was lit up w/ marks, and ended up hooking 2 juveniles.... ??? Dunno what's going on with this year's run but my local area, 10, is closing on Friday and the idea of not even getting one good chinook out of there this season is just silly. Next time I get out there better be the best salmon fishing day of my life!! ;D

I'm sure the bite will turn on somewhere this weekend.  Where we fishing Zee?

I think somewhere south is the call. We could do Vashon, maybe Three Tree?

From the ifish reports I've read and the fact that the netting season is closing due to reaching their allotment, I'd say that the lower Columbia would probably be worth a shot.

The Rogue strain and other Tules are apparently making a good showing.

The Astoria area is still on my short list for this weekend.

The reports I've been seeing over the last week or so have been strongest in the Eastern Straits and North Sound.

Hey guys

Here's a North Coast report for you. since the Nehalem is very slow (went 0 for 1 during the six days I fished it), I started fishing B10 this week.  fished it Monday and Tuesday, I would say the fishing is not too bad for this time in August. Had company so I used the drift boat with a kicker motor.  Both days we went 1 for 2 with a couple of hits that did not stick. We also saw other fish caught but not in great numbers. Did not fish today since the nets were out and it got windy during the fishable hours.  Others that I have talked to are catching fish and getting limits in the ocean. The nets are getting fish in good numbers also plus today is their last day.  When you weigh all your options for catching a salmon during the next couple of weeks B10 will be your best bet.

Went out in the Arima with a buddy this AM----a ton of large herring at the surface, saw a feeding king roar through the school about 2 feet down---it went right under the boat, at 0600!  We hooked up a few minutes later with about an 8# native fish at 35feet, that was it for us for the next 4 hours.  Saw one guy net a 20+, there were about 120 boats at Point Defiance/slag pile.  Radio reports of a short bite at the mouth of the Puyallup. Had to come in at 10:00 to work, so did not get to fish the flood at Dalco.
Where oh where are you, my pretty king??????

Awesome!! Woulda' been cool to see the nature show! Last few times I've been out there's been a TON of bait as well. Is it possible they're gorging themselves on it and skipping our offerings?

That's sorta what we concluded.  I just went down to the dock and pulled out the Arima, saw a buddy going out in his Whaler--he'll call tonite with a report.
Thinking about fishing Point Dolphin Fri PM on the flood.  Wife is outta town this weekend so no WAF to deal with, free to roam....

Sunday is the day I got free.  Hope that fits in with your schedule.

I may have a short window on Saturday morning to fish, that is if I can get up early.  It's been a brutal week workwise.  And to think, I could be up in QCI.  Speaking of QCI, the boys should be on their way back to civilization.  Looks like the weather calmed a bit for them the back half of this week.  I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for a report or a phone call.

Lots of Chinook and Coho being caught near Astoria.  I'll probably be fishing it Sunday morning.

Spot, any tips for someone considering giving the lower C a shot?  I doubt I can get a WAF pass for the weekend, but I'm curious about kayak-friendly locations.
