Shark ID ?

Caught and released this Saturday while fishing for California Halibut. I'm guessing it's a Spiny Dogfish shark or a Brown Smoothhound (because of the tail). I caught three the same day about a month ago. Can anyone confirm? Thanks.

kinda hard to tell, but doesn't seem to have the spots that spiny dogfish have.

From that photo I'd say brown smoothhound.   It's also possible that it could be a soupfin.

possibly a blue ?   Can't tell the length of the pectoral fins because of the angle of the photo.

Oof! Soupfin, what a bad name to have if you are a shark.

This is either a soupfin or brown smoothhound. Can't tell by the picture but smooth hounds won't get much larger than 36"

  I'd say that any fish 36" long with serious teeth needs to be handled with care.
