hello all,

is anyone planning on making the hood canal derby this weekend?  I am planning on the queen and I attending both days.  there is an easy launch out of hoodsport and basicly as soon as you get past the dock there you can start catching fish. it is about a 1/2 mile paddle to the hatchery inlet from the launch point and alot of people just troll a big circle out in front of it.

This will be my first time out since my surgery but I have been keeping up on the reports and it has been slowly picking up.  The skok is fishing well and the kings have to come past hoodsport to get there plus what comes in to go to the hatchery.  I was told "that the fish have moved in the week" and that it should be good fishing.

Sounds like we're all a month or so late with the run this year. Good luck in the derby HH. Sounds like a good time.

Someone going bungee jumping to me is cool BUT someone landing a monster of a fish off of a kayak is AMAZING

there is a state park about 10 minutes away it is Potlatch State Park Campground
also there are several private campgrounds allround hoodsport.  the road to lake cushman is in hoodsport also and it is only about 10-15 miles up to several camp grounds. if I can think of any more I will let you know.

according to most people here the coho killers or coyote spoons in army truck, wonder bread, cop car or the glow green work well.  also jigging point wilson dart and crippled herring jigs,  and trolled cut plug or "paddle mooching" all work well.  I plan on some cut plug and coyote spoon.  I have the queen set up with a point wilson for when she get tired and a spoon to troll.  I an thinking of rigging her up a bobber and herring rig like you would for chum the water by the hatchery is a good spot for that.  we hooked three last year using nothing more that a pink 1/8 aero jig.  the guys at verles swear by the wonder bread coyotes.  ifyou to steelhead-salmon-fishing.com they have a bit in the tips area about the canal....
on the plus side the ticket gets you in for a BBQ after the fishing isover on saturday...

hope this helps

No it was from the local "store" the guy there has been there forever and everyone talks to him I also talked to the guys at verles in shelton (fishing store) they said the fishing has been up and down they have put me on some good spots in the past so I consider them pretty good when it comes to reports.  we are loaded and ready to go..
