So the word on the street is everyone is HAMMERING kings off the condos.  Even the powerboats are calling it home.  I battled 10 boats or more Sunday.

But word is out.  One charter captain I know made three trips with clients and friends and KEPT 36 kings in one day going no farther out than the green can.

If you wanted to try and catcha  king, this may be your best shot at it.  These fish come and go, I almost hope they leave given the number of boats, but its a great opportunity.

I will probably hit at east one day oif not two given the in-service day on Friday and a holiday Monday for our company.

Picked up an extra GT Drive so I can make one of my older V@ drives a spare.

Pretty certain I'm gonna head down tomorrow. I'll post a report. Hoping Kachemak Gear shed still has some coho killers...

Sigh . . . I was in Homer on the 8th and 9th and there wasn't a fish to be seen.

Reports like SwansonSilver's are rolling in.  Tons of kings with a few good ones mixed in.

I will say that one "new twist" to this fishery is that the fish are being found crazy shallow at times.  Especially at high tide.  Unusual for this time of year.  Going to ultralight a few fish and see what happens.  Maybe even break our Barbie again.  We hit several fish in 12 ft or less of water.  Trying to keep this info on the down low because surf casters could take over this spot.

it's not always like this and the fish here move on.  Get them while its hot!!!

Hit the Spit at around 2pm on Saturday as the tide was coming in.  Boats all around were hooking up here and there.  A few good strikes including some super small halibut.  Very little bait which had me concerned but often the bait disappears as the tide comes in.  I seem to catch my share of fish as the tide is coming in so all is not lost.

Still no pollock and no salmon until the very end.  High tide was at 5pm.  Sunset 7pm.  I bet i caught the fish at 6:30pm.

So on day 2, we hit the water at first light which was around 8:00am.  Tide is going out.  There is bait everywhere.  Both Ryu and I get whacked half a dozen times each using Silver Horde Coho Killers but we just can't get them to connect.

Though it is SUPER fishy, we have one small shaker I released to show for it at noon.  We take a break at lunch and I go buy herring for Ryu.  I was hoping the two gamaktsu would stick better than the single hook of the spoon.  We get back in the water and within an hour he is limited out.  Outfitted by my kid again.  Dagnummit...love to see the kid happy and all, but not liking this getting outfished thing.

I manage a tiny halibut after I steal his gear.  He manages another small halibut we released because it seemed mushy jigging a crippled herring.  I release two more small halibut.

So the fish are still there.  Action was slow partially due to the fact on Day 1 we fished the worst possible tide.  Day 2, I missed more fish today than I have the past several months combined I think.  Very strange.  Outgoing tide closer to high tide fished the best.  We fished mainly shallow 30 ft or less 75% of the time and we got strikes in 10ft of water on several occasions.  In fact I saw a king caught off the beach by a surfcaster.

So here is the video:

Right on, nice fish Ryu! I ended up swapping out the hook on my first Coho killer for a gamu 5/0 octopus and that seemed to work pretty well. It was an older spoon and had a different hook than the ones that you can buy now. Those winter kings sure are delicious on the grill. You know it's good when your 4 year old wolfs it down.

Nice fish guys. Love to join you but freezing rain does not make the trip advisable.
