Since my family and I do a fair amount of ATV'ing at Sand Lake, I think one of the first salty water floats will be in the estuary south of the SL campground.   I can easily slip a kayak into my cargo trailer with the ATV's and camp in one of the south most sites and have both ATV'ing and Kayaking in the same trip.

Has anyone had any experience paddling around this estuary?

I hear that there are dungy crabs, and flounder out there.   ;D
