HDPWipMonkey texted me last week regarding a chat he had with some Hagg Lake person that is "in the know".  He said that the lake will in fact be open for year round fishing starting Monday the 23rd.

Now I thought it was odd that when they originally announced that Hagg would be going to be open for year round use starting opening day in spring of this year, they did not include fishing in that announcement.  Nor did they ever put out any notice that it would later in the year.  I figured what's the point in having the lake open with fishing closed.  At least for me, I don't just go there to "recreate".   I go there to shop for food, and of course check out any hotties in the warmer months.
;D

So, with that I just wrote it off as Hagg would not be a year round lake like most other lakes in Oregon have been for years and years, and would continue to just visit during normal fishing season dates.

Now that they go and finally announce it will be open for fishing year round starting Monday Nov 23, I may actually do some winter fishing for crappie, and perch.  Granted trout will be in there, and probably be regular biters, but my experience with trout out of Hagg is that they are too damn small for the limit of 5.  They are fun to catch and release on occasion, so there is that.

Anywho, anyone that likes fishing Hagg now can continue throughout the year.  Hopefully we can get to a point where it is open 24hrs so summer night bass fishing could take place.

Perfect! Just bought my first kayak and I'll be going to Hagg to practice self-rescue, and my waterproof gear. since it is close to where I'll be staying. Now I can fish there too. That's perfect. See ya out there maybe!  ;D

Damn!  You beat me to the big announcement.  LoL!

Let me know when you decide to head out to the lake.  With it being about 15 mins from my house, I spend a lot of time there.

Awesome. A sail/trout trolling hookup? Would mind doing some winter sailing.

I've never been to Hagg, as I am not terribly interested in trout. But it's just an hour from Salem and if spits out panfish during fall and winter, it might be well worth a visit.

Sorry guys, nothing to report.  Lots of fishing but no catching, not even a bite.  I tried trolling for trout and pitching jigs for panfish.  Nothing was biting.  There were a couple other boats out there and I didn't see them catch anything either. I was down at the lower end of the lake today, maybe I'll try up by boat ramp C next time.  I need to find some structure to fish.  There was nothing on the bottom down where I was.  Nothing for the fish to hide next to.  I guess there are some sunken man made structures up near boat ramp C.  I may have to try and see if I can find those.  It was a good day for fishing though.  Not too much wind and not too cold.  The water was in the low 50s.
