Ah shit .....
An argument happened on the internet and I wasn't part of it.

If it wasn't for a visit to the local taco truck resulting in my fourth trip to the crapper tonight I might have missed this riveting discussion all together.
Thank god for surfing fishing forums while taking a dump!

Now that you mentioned it Bill, Wipmonkey does have a habit of sneaking out of the cafe at lunch (at work) and just about that same time there are some fresh posts on this forum.

Your theory is proven.   ;D

In the mean time, you should be all caught up on the topic and therefore we should be getting ready for some Fungunnin corn indicator infused ribbing.    :toothy12:

Any comparison of paddling effort and speed vs. a mono-hull yak?

Its symmetry appeals to me, looks like it would make using an anchor trolley moot, thinking it could be a good candidate for drifting rivers for steelhead.

I've read all the specs and looked at all the videos on their site and must say that it looks like a pretty cool yak to me, all the bloviation aside.

Ok, the A$$hat takes a personal swipe, albeit a minor one.  I put up $3,000 on the challenge.

No offense  Widgeonmangh, but if this turns out to be a representative or the owner of the company, I'd think twice about representing them.

I know I am not supposed to engage people like this, but too many people believe crap they read on the internet.  Not going to let this slide....

Just for giggles, I went and read the other thread... Just let it go, Rudy. None of this is worth anybody's time. I need you focused on answering my stupid Alaska newbie questions, not poking holes in Wave Walk's "scientific paper"!  Plus, if you DO show up for that tug of war showdown, you better make darn sure that Ryu doesn't weigh an ounce over or under 75 pounds or that guy will cry foul ;)

Yeah, I could get much further than the intro... Pure bias and opinion wrapped up in a sciency looking package.

It all comes down to this: try both types and pick the one you like better... I personally like having my hands free to fish.

Now, how does Wavewalk or any other paddled kayak do with any form of hands free fishing?  Would I be wrong to say that only during glide, sitting still, or while being pulled by a fish, and never when actively paddling.  If so, I would really like to see a video on how this is accomplished.
Not that I really care that much, but paddle & troll. I do have to stop paddling when I hook up. You've probly seen me do it, but I can get a vid next time I'm on the salt.  ;)  >:D

I enjoy paddling, it is relaxing.  When I use my downrigger for kokanee, I like having it in front of me, especially when I stack two poles on the one downrigger.    But if I really want hands free, I will just put a motor on it. You can put up to a 6hp motor on the W700. It kind of stops being a true kayak once you start motorizing/driving these things, but what ever floats your boat.  I have yet to get a fish tangled in my paddle or have a paddle failure.

People are interesting.  Is it about catching fish or the technique you use.? Are you a fisherman that sometimes fly fishes or are you flyfisherman and everything else is bunk?

Is it all about catching fish in a kayak, is it about belonging to the club?  Anyone can be average and most people are.

I have been using the W700 on the mud flats of the Nisqually for my duck hunting this year.  It has done great in the wind, current, and the weeds. I regularly do 1.5 mile paddles in in the dark in water that goes from 20 feet in the channels to 4 inches in the flat (without warning).  I paddle over and through flooded salt grass chasing cripples.  I can store 32 decoys (I have room for more), shotgun, camo net, lawn chair, gun box, thermos and shells, and still stand up paddle in the wind.  I can stand up and shoot cripples on the water, without blinking an eye.  And it is comfortable to do all the fishing I do out of it.

It will not do everything. No boat does.  But it does all the stuff I want it to do at a level of excellence that I require of it, which is why I own it. For people who do the stuff I do in kayaks, it is a great option, which is why I sell them.

I have never invented a product, patented it, put out the money to have it manufactured (Keeping it in the USA) and tried to market it to make a living for my family.  But I suppose if I did I might be a bit biased as to my creation and I would probably brag about it quite a bit(especially on my own website) and think it was the best thing since sliced bread.  Lot harder to build things up than tear them down.

tight lines.

Your thought process is very similar to most people here. Find something you like and when others ask you tell them why you like it. Just like most pro staffers.
The issue here is not that one person said their preferred kayak was better it is that someone decided to try and write an advertisement for their kayak and pretend that is was an actual non biased scientific paper.
The orginal author is so convinced that his shit smells like roses that he can't look past his own fog to realize that there are different designs that accel at different things.
It isn't the kayak design people have a problem with. It is the attitude of the orginal author/company owner that has people upset.
This is a small community and trying to shit on one guy to make your product look better just makes the whole club house stink.

Not sure if this defense is on company orders or not, but I don't think you believe it yourself.

You are a great advocate for your line of boats.  The thing everyone is taking exception with is the psudeo-scientific puff piece.  It's crap.  It has nothing to do with personality or extreme pride of creation and ownership.  It has everything to do with misleading advertising.  You know that, you haven't defended that particular piece of advert crap, and this is the second time you've tried to reframe the debate to deflect attention from the thing that everyone has a problem with.

This boat really seems to shine as a waterfowl hunting boat.  You have convinced me of that with your posts.  If I was looking for a boat that could take a motor and had a draft of a couple inches to be a stealth duck/goose/brant hunting machine, I'd give you a call.  That's how marketing and pro staff should work.  Not the psudeo-science puffery.  That just leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth and is a major turnoff to most everyone that isn't drinking the mlm type sales kool-aid.

Thank you.  I hope you also notice I catch quite a few fish out of them too! :)

You might look up the format of a White paper to understand the format of his "puff piece".  I have a degree in science, and you are right it is not a scientific paper, but I don't believe it was ever intended to be.

But there seems to be an awful lot of heat to spend so much time on one advertisement piece.  It is not like he had two guys kissing to try and sell a candy bar.  :P
