I'm headed down to Port Orford for some bottom fishing! If any one is interested and would like to join me you're more than welcome. Will be launching at day light from the beach right next to the crane boat launch.

if anyone has any good info about port Orford or good fishing spots and want to share that would be awesome! I was thinking about paddling out to the point and fishing around there of weather permits!

You've done this before?  Doesn't sound like it if you aren't calling the dock beach by name: Dock Beach.

Dock Beach surf was up to four-five feet yesterday - about three feet higher than normal - and it won't settle much below that today.  Winds are out of the Southwest and the cove won't be sheltered until they shift.  Few of the commercial boats launched yesterday because of the conditions.

Folks fish along the highlands when the weather is good, no matter what size boat or type of craft they're using.  The weather is not good.  If you're in town for other reasons, have a great stay and maybe we'll bump into each other.  If you're driving in just to fish, it isn't safe right now.

Safety first.

When are you going exactly? We are going down on Monday for one week and  would consider going if the ocean calms down although we do have some salmon fishing planned already.I've only done it once by kayak and once by boat but used to fish off the rocks there a lot years ago.  All the usual species are right there in the cove. I'd use jigs and see what you come up with. You might drop some bait to the bottom and try for some greenling, too. There's a submerged rock near the spouting horn to be careful of. Good luck.

The wind has died down.  The waves are still a bit tall for Dock Beach, but the chop has settled by the Heads.  I think it's do-able for someone with more experience than me.  You're probably on your way already, but good luck out there.

Simpson Reef!

I wish I knew that area 1/10th as well as you, Chris.  And now, before C-Run and bb2fish call bullpoop on me - I have to confess that wish I knew any area in the sea by more than how it looks from shore...

Come spend a little time, Tinker! I don't have any honey holes out there but I can show you where to drop a line.

The webcam looks great. I'm sure it will be nice.

That's a dandy invitation.  Although, he might be looking for someone else to be shark bait.  >:D
Simpson Reef is on my short list for salt water adventures...wish I could go this weekend, but I'll be watching for another window.  Tinker, get ready!!

Alas, Chris, I must regretfully decline your kind invitation for this weekend.  One of the dogs is recovering from surgery.  I would jump at a chance to take a rain check and join you another time, if offered.

T_Angler, wind and waves have settled down and you'll have good weather and water today.  I'll see if I can be down there to say "Hi!" before you launch.  If you see a small red van or a Labrador wearing a big old sweatshirt that will be us.  (The sweatshirt is to keep her from getting sand in her stitches).

The Dock Beach webcam is good for a general idea of conditions east of the dock, but it doesn't show what's happening on the other side.  If anyone thinks about it, ask me and I'll run down to the dock and shoot a short video of conditions along the Heads so you can judge.
