It's that time of year again... I enjoyed our discussion on this topic last year and figured I'd fire it up again for 2016.

What are your kayak fishing goals for 2016? Or if not goals, what are your plans?

I'd like to continue to score more points in AOTY. I was pleased with my progress between 2014 and 2015, but the competition got tougher too, and I'll be lucky to squeak into the top 10 again. I think 1700 pts is a good goal for me.

Also Captain Redbeard is going electronic for the first time since I gave up petrol for a paddle. I got a small, inexpensive fish finder (Lowrance Elite 3x) that I'm setting up to move between my kayaks, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it affects my fishing. I've kind of worn the "no fish finder" badge of honor for a while, but there have been some situations where it definitely put me at a noticeable disadvantage.

I'm also getting set up with a 5wt fly rod. I haven't fly-fished in almost 20 years and I'm looking forward to trying it from the kayak, mostly for trout, carp, panfish, and bass.

I still haven't caught a shark from a kayak, and while I have no immediate plans, I'm keeping my ears open for opportunities. There are some family vacations coming up that might put me in the right place at the right time. Also I heard if you just follow Ling Ling around long enough you'll have a shot at a Great White, so I'll look into that.

EDIT: I almost forgot my biggest goal of all, to work hard to grow the NWKA Angler of the Year competition! I'm in process on getting sponsors set up, and I hope that if we grow the competition this year we can get some serious prizes lined up for 2017.

OK, your turn!

I'd like to do an "unsupported" multi-day float. John Day R. with the guide was great last year.  I'd like to do the Grande Ronde now.

To fish more in general would be nice as well.

My goal is to fish MORE!  Last year was crazy with transitioning out of the service, moving to Bend, etc.  I hope to see my pals up in the South Sound more often and eventually make it out to Coos Bay to fish with those hooligans.   :banjo:

My number one 2016 goal fish is a halibut as it is still a bucket list fish for me.

Although I caught me a 'nook salmon this year (and in a completely unorthodox method), I hope to add many more salmon to the freezer in 2016.

As for fishing tactics or hardware changes, I am so looking forward to getting my AI rigged up and out for some ocean fishing via Depoe Bay, and or Sunset.

Honestly rigging a kayak is almost as fun to me as fishing from them, almost.

Hopefully A halibut big enough that I'll need to use my harpoon that I built and never used last summer.

I don't need your pity. There's a fucking dead one already out there that doesn't know its last heartbeat is 5.5 months away. :-)
