It's supposed to be for the sea.  Deeper imaging, but narrower cone.

Anyone use one?  Any advantage to it?

It will fit, but does require some modification.  Unfortunately, I didn't realize the difference until I was half way through the install.  Would get the 83/200 if you can.

Thank you!  I ran across an Elite-5 with the 50/200 at a price too good to not consider.  Glad I asked the question.

I'm not ready to start drilling and cutting on a transducer, so it's as good as will not fit for me.  Thanks.  (Did you manage to get yours to fit?)

I'm also very curious about this. I'm in the market for an Elite 5 Chirp, and trying to decide between the 50/200/455/800 and the 83/200/455/800 transducers.

Either unit is within my budget, and fit is not an issue (shooting thru hull of a ~2012 Outback).

I'm only concerned with performance. I understand that the 50/200 version has narrower cone angles and is superior in deep saltwater, but here's my question...

Does the 50/200 version suffer in shallower saltwater (say 10-80 feet deep) or in shallow freshwater lakes and rivers?

The only "cons" I've read about for the 50/200 are cost and fit... Any others come to mind?

Higher frequency: narrower cone, poor performance in deep water, higher detail in shallower water.
Lower frequency: wider cone, better performance in deep water, less detail in shallower water.

If it were me, I'd go with the one with 83kHz instead of the one with 50kHz. I don't fish really deep water frequently.
And by really deep water I mean 200+ feet deep.

Hmm... I mostly fish saltwater in less than 100 FOW (I'd say 80% of the time I'm in 40-80). BUT, if/when the salmon bite turns on in Monterey Bay, I want to be able to track the edges of the Monterey Submarine canyon. So the ability to track bottom in 200-400 feet of water becomes important.

That's my conundrum... I don't spend a whole lot of time in water deeper than 200 feet, but when I do it's important to see what's going on down there. There tends to be a good mooch bite out there, and the fish are often hugging bottom in deep water.

I think I'm going to give the 50/200 a shot. If I don't like how it acts in shallow water, I'll sell it and swap in a 83/200.
