As there are several manufacturers of spline post/base type of mounts I cant find any information on which (if any) are cross compatible (interchangeable) between posts and bases. Scottys, Folbe, RAM, Cannon, Hobie, Railblaza others...

Anybody KNOW? I don't want to just assume.

Best bet is to assume they are not cross compatible. Hobie doesn't make their own, they OEM them so you can scratch them off the list of companies that make mounts. Scotty and RAM are not compatible. Pretty sure Folbe and Railblaza are not compatible with RAM and Scotty.

An advantage of mounting rod holders and other equipment on a gear track is that you can use equipment from several different manufacturers on the same gear track.  Of course, you'll need a different base for each manufacturer.

More than one way to skin a cat. Ram Ball. And yes, even if mounted on a gear track- which is IMHO is the better method. But I'm not convinced your statement is 100% accurate that NONE of them are interchangeable either.

You are right Rawk. Hobie is same as  Railblaza... Zooka Tube is for Ram... What else?

Cabelas sells bases and rod holders which are very similar to and interchangeable with Scotty equipment, but have the Cabelas name on them.  For example, I'm using Scotty rod holders in Cabelas bases.  I don't know if Cabelas has Scotty manufacture these items, or if Cabelas has purchased a license from Scotty to use Scotty's post and spline system.

My understanding is that a Folbe rod holder will fit into a Scotty base, but it may not lock into place like it should (which is very important for Folbe). One nice thing is that the hole/drill pattern of the Folbe is actually the same as the comparable Scotty. When I made the switch from Scotty rectangular flush mount to Folbe locking post mount, I was able to avoid drilling new holes.  I did have to cover the big "flush mount" hole leftover from the Scotty base, but that was as easy as cutting a new backing plate (cutting board chunk) without the big hole in the middle.

I can confirm this when I get home later if you're interested. I still have all the old Scotty parts kicking around in the basement somewhere.

For rod holders I tried Ram, tried Scotty, then tried Folbe. I will never go back and to Ram or Scotty.

Folbe FTW...

I think Atwood and Cannon are similar to Railblaza, and may be interchangeable.
