Hmmm, this sounds like fun.  ;D

But a 2,500 mile drive (each way) is just a tad too far...
Nah. Rudy drives that much for fish...well...you know, in a month.

I'm showing up Thursday evening after work to claim a spot by the condos. I'll see about saving some room for other guys.  Can't wait to show all the boats what a kayak can do!!!  See you guys out there.

Can we park there overnight? I'll be sleeping in my rig.

I'm not sure of the head count --- but like the rest of us "down south" good luck to all you Alaska folks fishing the Homer Derby. You have a great chance to take it all and make history while doing so. MAKE IT HAPPEN.

And like Dark Tuna- I sure would love to be up there fishing with you guys.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

It seems that normal links to PayPal is www.paypal.com/signin Correct?

The link that DWB123 sent you is the correct web address to create a personal Paypal account.  You will have to enter some CC or bank account numbers, because Paypal has to verify that the information you are giving them is correct.  For example, to verify your bank accounts, you give them your account information, and they make two insignificant transactions (a few cents each), and you then enter the value of the transactions to confirm that the account number you provided is really yours.  The Paypal enrollment process may seem like overkill, but I have had an account for years and never had any problems with it.  I only use Paypal once every couple of years, for things online person-to-person transactions.

I'm having a hard time trying to picture so many boats and people going in and out from the port.  I know a lot of participants are probably coming from Seldovia/Kodiak/Elsewhere, but the majority have to be going in and out through the Homer harbor.  How early do I need to show up to find a place to park and launch from?

Hopefully, since our launch point is off from the harbor--next to Lands End--we kayak folks can be cool enough to each other to pull our rigs out away from the edge after unloading. Carrying gear isn't horrible, but there's plenty of parking there for 20 or more vehicles away from that old picnic table so that our old bones shouldn't have to carry stuff an extra 10-20 yards!

Plenty of places for that in the nice little drinking town with a fishing problem. But yeah, we need to get together to talk strategy.

I'm assuming most everyone who's in town on Friday will be at/near Lands End. I am not leaving ANC til 5...so won't be in town til after 9.  Let's connect through here for those interested in meeting up prior to game-day.

Also are many of you staying Sat Night? Maybe we can get together for a post derby meet-up. I'm good with anywhere, but love to get my Fat Olives in when I can!

I am going to stay Friday until Sunday at Land's End then Sunday night at the Bidarka. My grand kids are playing a hockey tournament in Homer and my wife is working in Homer on Monday so I am staying longer than usual. I  am up for a Fat Olive's meet up but would like to get a Capt'n Patties meal also if they are open. I will be accepting my derby prize on Saturday night.

I'm staying Saturday evening as well...after I accept the prize, LMAO!  :banjo:

If the weather holds, I'm thinking of giving it a go Sunday morning as well and head back north early afternoon.

Low_Sky, maybe we can check out Diamond Creek Park? Leave a truck at Bishop's Beach, load the yaks into another and try to launch from Diamond Creek then float back down so we don't have to drag boats back up  the trail?

Don't see why not...some dude parked his camper there last week. Pretty sure you can't do that but I'm sure sleeping in a truck is fine

I may be down to try a one-way cruise on Sunday.  You okay with making the call Saturday evening?  I may need to recover after 8+ hours on the water on Saturday ;)

Absolutely, I may be in the same condition...just hate to waste a 3-day kitchen pass without getting at least a little seat time on Sunday.

Sounds like that may be the place to have a beer or two then. Everyone will already be there so no logistical work in moving anywhere else.

Ok.  Cleared my Friday.  Sweet.

I will likely be down to prefish Friday but I am likely going back to Homer so not sure about the late night beerfest...besides this is a competition.  This is serious!!!! lol.  Ok, its not that serious.  Can't wait to see the armada on Saturday!!!
