My Kayaker fellow my friends and I are going to Homer this weekend. Any suggestions? Weather conditions? Should we cancel?

Keep an eye on the wind direction. Assuming you will be fishing off the spit, a north/northeast wind shouldn't really spoil your day since the spit will offer protection. I was out last weekend during a gale warning with forecasted 6 footers but since it was a NE wind, I was only dealing with 2' chop. If that wind had been say from the South, it would be a definite no go. It's ultimately your call depending on abilities of crew/gear etc.

Fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga except I get to kill something.

Looks like a small craft advisory through tomorrow for high winds and 6' seas.

I think most of us have the VHF radios, the derby broadcasts on VHF and you log in with them on VHF. I use UHF when messing around talking to my wife sometimes when on the water though.

Can anyone recommend a good VHF under $150? I'd rather mess around with a floating comm device versus my smart phone out on the water.

Anyone kayaker on the Spit This weekend?
I fished yesterday and this morning before the weather came in. Caught a few small halibut and one king trolling a herring 30' down in 60' of water.

Usally from my experience if the forecast on the spit has an easterly component to it and is 3 ft and under you can fish the spit, we went yesterday and it was pretty rough managed a bunch of short halibut kept one also caught a skate that must have been 100 pounds great gear tester, if you want to see what your gear will handle find 230 ft drop something big and stanky down it doesn't take long my buddy caught 3 big skates yesterday but he was trying to lol its fun though kind of a big fish fix for winter
