Can you put regular bicycle pedals on the Hobie shafts? If not why and is there a way to modify it so you can? I can on my wife's mariner propel. Thanks for your input.

I think those were on the Fungunnin custom pedal shaft upgrades, but I may be wrong.

Sure you can. Why would you want to ? Other than increasing the opportunity to snag a line while fishing, I mean.

Make sure you don't get the clip-shoe kind. That would suck in a huli.

Clipless bike pedals won't suck any more in a huli than they do in a bike crash, which is "not at all".  Once you learn how to get in and out of them it becomes second natures and you do it without even thinking about it.  The biggest obstacle I see between me and bike pedals on a Hobie is the cost of corrosion resistant pedals.  I'd hate to spend the money on pedals just to have them rust up in salt.

Google brought up lots of results. I've seen a mod in real life, looked OK.

Here's an example from my google search:

Looks like it only works with the old arms or custom arms thanks for the input.

I have a set of Fungunnin's prototype Mirage arms that were tapped for bicycle pedals.  The pedals that came with it were those that had bearings.  The bearings were severely rusted out from salt water use and the pedals needed replaced.  So, I picked up a set of cheap $8 Walmart pedals with no bearings, just a plastic pedal with metal shaft similar to the Hobie pedals.  To combat future rust/corrosion, I drilled a 3/6" hole in the plastic to access the side of the metal shaft.  Also, removed the end cap from the pedals.  This allows me to squirt in a dose of Corrosion-X inside the pedal, and blast it with an air gun to completely coat the metal shaft inside the pedal.  Seems to be working out really well.

Don't think I would want to be "clipped" to the pedals like a bike though as a good dump and you would have yet another thing to try to get loose from so you can get back to breathing.   :-\

The orginal Hobie arms were threaded for bicycle pedals. They eliminated that when they went to a hollow arm.
There was a period in 2013-14 where guys were breaking alot of arms.  So played around with manufacturing some stronger arms. We made them with 7075 T6 aluminum and taped them for bicycle pedals. They also came with a set of billet adapters that allowed you to use the stock Hobie pedals as well.
I run a super cheap plastic pedal on my drive and really like them.
