I'm planning on fishing Thursday and Friday. Mostly trolling for kings, but I will try to catch some halibut too. Once I see what is going on I will post a report.

I may be taking the new Revo out for a shake-down cruise this weekend, but since it won't be rigged yet I probably won't be too serious about fishing.

Maybe Sunday...this responsibility called parenting and a job are keeping me busy even on weekends.  Argh!  lol.

As far as gear goes, take along a 10oz sinker, in-line flasher and a coho killer spoon.  Just drag that thing around.  The only issue is when you place the rod in the pre-,molded rod holders, use a shorter rod since you'll ruin your neck looking up all the time and you need to let out considerably more line it feels like to get to depth.  But you really don't need anything fancy to have a chance.  For halibut, you don't anything but rod and a hook.  I think you will want to fish a bit to get  feel for where you want your rod holders and such.

Maybe we will see some folks out there!

If I get out there I'll bring a rod, but fishing really won't be the primary focus. Mostly I'll be learning the stability, flipping it a couple times and making sure all my planned gear locations will be reachable on the water.

Hopefully we will run into some folks then, sounds like people might be around. Weather doesn't look terrible as of yet...

I actually made the trip down and back today for my first time this year.  Fished from 8-2, a combo of trolling for kings (no luck) and bottom fishing for halibut.  For the halibut, i tried dragging the bottom from straight out from the condos all the way tothe green can, between 130-180 feet.  Caught a gazillion cod, but only caught two pretty small halibut, kept the larger of the two..  Obviously, others have had better luck...I never felt like I "found them."  Still nice to be out onthe water again.

If you're coming from Anchorage and you haven't left yet, I'd consider staying home if you don't have studs. Not long after Cooper Landing the highway turned into ice all the way to my house in Soldotna.

Hey fellas, I'm heading down in the morning and I can't seem to find any green/red label herring in Kenai. Where can I find some in Homer this time of year?
Fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga except I get to kill something.

Bait shop on the spit had plenty yesterday. I can't remember the name of it, but is located right next to the giant circle hook.
