An extensive internet search didn't provide much helpful info, so I'm tapping into the collective DIY genius of all of you whose posts I've been following.

I recently bought my first motorhome and kayak. I picked up a '98 Georgie Boy Swinger (35' Class A) and a Hobie Oasis. I'm trying to find a solution to mounting the kayak on top of the RV. I'm not looking to tow any type of trailer and the rear, vertical mounting options don't seem feasible with a 11.5' tall RV and 14.5' kayak. any ideas?

What are your diagonal measurements on the RV , top left corner to bottom right corner? Custom cradle holding it at a slight gangster lean?

Congrats on the Oasis - great boat. I don't have a solution to your problem exactly but have you looked at the Thule Hullivator load-assist carrier? I'm not sure it would get down low enough to make it feasible, but it might be worth looking at.

Do you have a plan for how you are going to get your Oasis up there?  Probably weighs about 90 pounds, right?

Is there enough room up top for the boat lay flat upside down, and clear the A/C unit and other equipment up there?

You might get some good ideas from Yakima's "Custom Install" page.  https://explore.yakima.com/custom-install

Mojo, the vertical/diagonal option won't work. Likely to still have about 3' sticking up above the roof.

I actually slid it into the RV through the rear window/ emergency exit with about 3/4" to spare. Pretty cumbersome and not a good long term solution though.

Low_Sky, it weighs about 110# dry. Easy enough to slide up or down over the ladder. I've got space on the driver's side to put it. Just don't know how I'd secure it. I'd like to mount some kind of rack on top, just don't know how I'd screw it down.

How much open space in the bottom storage area?

Couldn't you just put it inside on the floor of the living space ?

You say you have room in the driver side under compartment? If yes then build a custom rack inside the compartment that slides out or just man handle it onto a cradle in there. Rear hatch emergency window build a fold down hitch mount "table" the height of the window put it on that go inside and slide it on in. Honestly if you had a week or two to come fish here I'm sure we could put something together for you at the cost of material.

What material is the roof made out of?

If it's sturdy (or can be enforced somehow) you could just use a set of Yakima crossbars and their towers made for bolting on top of camper shells.

Like so:

Newer RV's are wood or aluminum structure with chip board roofs under a singe rubber membrane, if it's typical. You would have to be sure you are hitting s structural beam if racking the top.

I can't tell what model RV that is so no advice there. Go to the RV mfg's site, you should be able to get a structural blueprint from them. You can screw into the roof, just make sure you hit the one of the roof supports. Look at the A/C units and other assorted electrical parts up there, they should be bolted to the supports. You can certainly bolt support racks to lay the kayak on and tie into. FYI, caulk around the bolt/screw holes very well with a silicone based caulk. As far as getting it up there, I had a friend of mine that had the same set-up as you want, he would get up on top, have his wife lean the yak against the rear ladder then he would pull it up over the ladder. Should be able to mount some type of roller type unit on the side that would make it easier. Just be sure to remeasure you vertical clearance with the yak up there, don't want to be surprised by a low bridge. Good luck

Exactly. Finding the structural support studs will tell you where you could mount a rack or other attaching points. Your already have a factory "luggage rack" up there. That should be as a good indication of where your studs are

I have put my Trident 13 and 2 other small 10' recreational kayaks on my camper before. It wasn't easy to get them on/off the roof. Once up there I was able to get them secured down with straps, but not on any kind of rack. If I was to do something long terms and user friendly, I would probably put some Hully Rollers on the back and rig a pulley system to pull it/them up. Once you get it up there the first time it will become obvious where the best place for it will be.

Im sorry, but please don't use silicone or caulk! you definitely want to seal anywhere you penetrate the roof, but use the correct lap sealant meant for RV roofs and lap seals such as SikaFlex or Dicor. You could also use the Butyl tape in certain places depending on its use..
