So I decided to look over the fishing regs for this year and noticed that there are now some Early Run King Salmon special harvest areas designated. Looks like they blue areas once you retain a king over 20" you cannot fish for any species that day in the special harvest area. Also, there is a conservation zone, where salt waters are closed to all fishing April 1- June 30 except one up by Ninilchik which is open to fishing from shore.

These zones go from the shore to 1 mile off shore. Zone 3, to me, looks to encompass Whiskey Gulch, but I could be wrong.. I figure Rudy or Jacob could sound off on that a bit better than I can.

No change from the 2015 regulations, except the dates on the weekends that are open to shore fishing in zone 1.

Yeah, was out of the game last summer and with all the changes due to low king returns in the last few years, just wanted to verify this wasn't anything new.

I'm working on mapping the description given in the regs in google earth. ADFG's GIS person needs to be slapped around a little bit. I'll post a comparison when I'm done,  but preliminarily, I'd give the boundaries a pretty wide berth.

Yea I was looking and it appears whiskey gulch is north of their northern marker.

So, here's what I came up with in Google Earth, using the latitudes given in the reg book.  1.25 miles south and 3.25 miles north of where the road goes onto the beach at WG is good to go.  For safety, I'd dial those back to 1 mile and 3 miles, respectively.  If you want the .kml file, shoot me a PM with your email address and I'll send it to you.  No guarantees on the accuracy, but it's about as good as I can get it with the tools available to me.

yup. that's why WG is the preferred launch location. you can launch from deep creek or anchor point but you got to get out if the closed zones first.

even out of WG, the anchor point closure is close. there will be large orange/red markers on the beach and you need to be careful. The people living in the houses in the area WILL call you in.  in the past few years the trooper who enforces the area (trooper trent) is cool, but will issue tickets. if you have to fish right on the libe, I highly suggest tracking the mark and saving your position on gps.  it's one if the rule changes I'm looking for fir non motorized is we can catch a king and still stay in the zone. more on that later.
