Anyone know any areas to launch my kayak on lake Washington or lake sammamish that also has free parking and not to long of a walk? I have a pretty heavy kayak (with wheels) but want to know of any areas you guys launch from that has easy access and free parking? Thanks in advance.

this is a bit dated, but I used to launch into Lake Washington from Mercer Island at Calkins Landing.  Parking was always tight here but it was free and no launch fee.  However, times change so a little research or a drive by might be in order.

Thanks guys for the replies! Just looked at the calkins landing, so those street ends are just dead ends with a park leading to the water? I think those would be the best bet for me and a little closer than Kirkland but not by much. ☺️ The Lincoln landing and calkin landing both look good. Might stop by and check them out today! Thanks again!

Do post what you discover.   I've had intentions of checking these launches myself.

There's another in Renton but it's a $10 fee per day.  I may give this a look some day.

Eugene, is this beach launch at a park?  (O.O. Denny Park, perhaps?  Or Juanita Beach?)

I was wondering if one of the local Kirkland waterfront parks will allow kayak access to the beaches...

Lake Sammamish has a public boat launch at the south end (Jenson's Cove). With a Discover pass the parking is free.

Juanita - there is no special launch, but it is possibly to launch from the beach. Denny - I do not know, never been there. Waverly is closed, no water access at all.

Is this the one off the front street exit? I thought that was the newly upgraded launch where parking is like 17$? Am I thinking of somewhere else?

Head in to the State Park entrance and head toward the kayak rental site.  You can launch from the beach with the rentals.  Discovery Pass needed for parking.

As a bonus, you can explore Issaquah Creek -- paddle yak works best as there are trees down and shallows -- for a quiet tour, too.

No, it's off East Lake Sammamish Parkway, north of the Home Depot and BMC West. I've not been there in a few years so I can't attest to cost situation. But, a Discover Pass should get you free parking at all State Parks.

The state park link above lists the boat launch as part of the state park, so parking should be free with a Discover Pass.

Oh nice I have a discover pass but didn't know it worked for boat launches! Thanks!

You'll need a cart to roll the 'yak between your vehicle and the water at the State Park. Figure about 150 feet of soft sand to cross.  There's a retaining wall drop of a couple feet as well, else take the walk to your left to go around the wall to the beach.

On lake sammamish I like to launch from Idlewood park. It's free the parking lot is a few hundred yards from the water but trail is paved easy with a cart although up hill coming back
On lake Washington I like to launch from mercer slough in Bellevue you can back up right to the water but you have an easy 10 min paddle down stream to the lake
