This is a great site.  I found my way here through Ifish back in June.  I've been checking things out since then and decided now is the time to jump in and start posting.  I have lots of yakking questions for you folks.

I've been fishing most of my life.  Both sport and commercial in Alaska and sport in Washington and Oregon.  None of it done out of kayaks.

I live in the Gorge now and it's amazing the number of species there are to fish for down here.  Growing up I was limited to salmonids and a few saltwater species.  Unraveling the mysteries of Brown trout, Walleye, Bass, Carp and Sturgeon has been a learning experience.  Albacore were a definite mind blower.

My sit-on-top experience is limited, but I always had great fun.  I've done a few days of class II/III white water, a few demo days, a little surf-ski action in Mexico, and a memorable all day down winder in Hawaii. It always surprised me how seaworthy these little boats are.

Yak fishing seems like a great time and I'm excited about getting it to it.  Great exercise, no gas, stealthy, access to hard to reach spots... what's not to like.

I guess it's time for me to take step one and buy a boat. ;D

Hope to fish with some of you soon.

Welcome! Where in the Gorge are you? I live in Stevenson, and have been fishing around there a bit.

I live in HR.

Have you ever fished the slough on the West end of Stevenson?  It looks really bassy from hwy 14.  I've heard some steelhead go up that creek.

yep, that's where I've been doing most of my fishing. The bass fishing was good this spring, but I haven't been for a bit. You can see a few pictures here:

I've seen salmon swimming up in the spring and fall, so imagine steelhead would head up as well.

Welcome new guy from a new guy!  Now try and say it three times really fast.

I hope you can pick up a kayak soon.  I really must say that between the catchless trip (like tonight) to the meat hunt, it can't get much better.  And when some fish can tow you around like a bobber, you tend to respect that fish! I mean really, the sharp knife attached to the vest is there for a good reason.  Be careful in the Gorge.
Time for another cocktail,
Scott

No doubt.  I've had large halibut and sharks pull me around in a small skiff.  I imagine the effect is greatly magnified on a yak.  I bet even a decent sized coho would tow you a bit.  I'm sure taking a Columbia sleigh ride from a sturgeon would be a blast.

Thanks.  I'm searching for the right kayak and hoping to make it out to Pacific City.  Where does everyone fish?  Near haystack rock or along Cape Kiwanda to the North?

Nice pictures on your web site.  Your spring trip on the lower Columbia looked like a lot of fun.

thanks. the lower Columbia was a blast. we got very lucky on weather, especially for February. I still need to finish the report from the last day of that trip.

I've got some time off work starting tomorrow, and plan on getting some fishing in. If you feel like heading out, drop me a line or give me a call. 503.577.5085

I can't make it up to the Columbia this weekend, but when I can I'll  call and give you a heads up.

I am trying to make it to the Pacific City Derby, and it's looking GOOD!.

I will commit as soon as I know for certain.
