I'm wondering what everyone else thinks of these guys, and how they use their kayaks. It's awesome to see these guys catch monster grouper, and huge sharks. I feel though that they are in some way misrepresenting the sport of kayak fishing. A lot of the time, these guys get mother shipped out to an area. They are sometimes tied off to a boat, and have a full on support team most of the time. Its probably a blast hooking in to the monsters, and i'm sure there is some skill involved. They seem to be out for a rodeo show, more that progression of the sport. Maybe i'm completely wrong, but I'd like to hear what others think.

I think it would have been more entertaining if his buddies were also on yaks and he fell in while standing.... Bet you would have seen him walking on water.

They're out having a good time.  How they get there doesn't matter.

The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

I've done mothership trips and they are fun. I can't paddle 60 miles off shore and get back on my own. It is different than what I would consider real kayak fishing.

I understand mother shipping, and logistically the benefits of it. What i'm questioning is their antics.

I'm not sure what mis-representing the sport really means. Does that guy fish differently than what is the norm for us who fish the Oregon coast? Sure he does - so do most other kayak fishermen in the world. There is plenty of room for all of us who use kayaks for fishing.

As for mother-shipping, he likely was, but he was close enough to shore to easily get out to where he was fishing. It is plausible that he launched from shore and didn't get any help from the boat other than what was shown.

And antics - I'm not going to question anybody about that after some of the trips I've been on

I have watched a number of their videos and do not think I have seen them misrepresent how they have gotten out to their fishing waters.    They are all about getting video footage as a good number of their videos have had several millions of viewers which can bring in revenue.   I would also film from a conventional boat if I were them.   Releasing the fish with help from the conventional boat is beneficial to angler and the fish.   Only negative thoughts I have toward them is envy.   :-\
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

Thanks guys for all the good answers. It sounds like I need to take one of these trips, and see what all the fuss is about. I'm sure its a blast to battle these giants, like I stated in the first post. You guys who commented that they are out there having fun, are spot on with that statement. Maybe I'm just jealous!! ha  :-[
