Hello it's been a while since I have posted anything so bear with me I am moving up near anchor point at the end of the summer from oregon and was wondering what to expect as far as water temp, distance to decent spots, I have a couple kayaks and have went off shore in 5-8ft and love to free dive and scuba spear does anyone do that around homer? Are there places close for scallops? Any and all help is appreciated and I hope to see some of you on the water

Anchor point is right in the middle of prime launch spots for halibut and salmon. I don't have any experience free diving, but i know Cook inlet currents cannot be fast and strong.  I fished out of whiskey gulch last week with good results.  Never dove for scallops though.

It's flippin' cold.  Anchor Point temps are probably somewhere between Kodiak and Anchorage.  Bring a dry suit.

Anchor point is fish central for kayak fishing in this area.  Spearfishing for halibut in that area?  Bad news...Current can run 5 knots or better.  Good news, You can find them under 30ft.  We had one guy trying it last year but he didn't have any luck that one day.  Scallops they dredge them up in Kodiak which is a 9 hour ferry ride away.  But lots of good stuff there too!!!  I've heard there are spots to spear kings though I can't say I know much about that.  I think finding spots with decent enough visibility where the fish congregate will be your main challenge for salmon given the lower water clarity during the summer months.

Take a look at my youtube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/guidesak or my cheapo website at http://AlaskaKayakFisher.com

Anything titled Deep Creek, Whiskey Gulch, Anchor Point, Lower Cook Inlet, or Homer is within 30 minutes of Anchor Point.  I'd say even though I live 4 hours away in Anchorage, I fish those locations 90% of the time.  So you are in the right spot!

Welcome!  Let's fish!

Thanks for the replies I am excited to test the Kenai and hopefully once we get our stuff settled ill be bugging for a fishing buddy to show me around its good to knowI'm in fish central we took a road trip last summer but just went on a charter for halibut and had the best time fishing the spit non stop action i know the water is cold I dove offshore Oregon two weeks ago with surface temps at 53 and. About48 at 80 ft I have both 7mm wet and a scuba dry suit with undergarments but prefer my wet suit as long as water is. 45 or higher what's the surface temp in homer right now? I enjoyed your highlights video and can't wait to move.

I haven't been to Homer in a few weeks, but last time I was there surface temps were about 40F.

Awesome almost 44 that's pretty cold but coldest water I dove in was 38 in a wetsuit and I didn't do the second dive. We are planning on being there august 1st as my wife starts teaching in mid august and can't wait to go on a halibut sleighride. Good luck this summer I'll be watching the Alaska board for pictures and videos
