I have the kokatat super nova angler and we get a discount through nwka at outdoor play. Check the classifieds section of the forum to see where we get discounts. I also use neoprene booties.

I also have the Kokatat super nova angler, great suit.  I have been out of Sunset Bay 3 times so far this year, fish are easy to find straight out towards Baldwin Rock or south on the way to and at Simpson Reef...I watch MSW for conditions to be 3' swells (or less  ;D )and wind under 10mph, those are go days for me (or 'go early' days if the wind is mild but coming up strong later in the morning...)  cheers, roger

All good advice! Welcome longtime! You've found the right place to get started! We will normally give a shout out here if conditions permit and a group is gathering for an outing. We'll have to keep an eye out if those dates will cooperate with the conditions. Definitely got do your homework on gearing up properly before then.

Lets start with what you have vs what you need:
Immersion gear?
safety flag?
compass, GPS?
What kind of kayak do you have? Are you physically able to get back in it should you go in?

Better to keep ones mouth shut and presumed a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

Thank you to all for the advise. I'm working on the dry suit, I'm looking to get a depth/fish/GPS before going out. I have a safety flag and compass. I have a feelfree mokin 14, yes I can get in and out just fine. I have been trolling in lakes for the past 6 months getting to know my kayak. I lived in Hawaii for 10 years and would free dive spearfish 3-4 time a week mostly night dives so I'm exited to get dive gear again and start spearfishing off this kayak as well. I also have fished on commercial boats off our coast for salmon and tuna and have been out rock fish and ling cod fishing many many times. Thanks again I'm stoked to find you all and hope to see some of you on the water.

Welcome to the site! The search function is your friend here but make sure to use "Depoe Bay" instead of Depot Bay in your query. The questions you ask have been well covered on this forum.

Look for past ORC Intel threads for tips on Depoe Bay. Stay out of the channel and well away from the north and south reefs and you'll be fine. Wear immersion gear and your PFD always while on the ocean. Fly a tall safety flag so boats can see you when you're in the trough of a swell. Monitor VHF channel 80 for local info from the coast guard.
