Ok so Chris made it in yesterday and we pulled his oasis out the back emergency window  :spittake: how the hell he got it in there by himself without a 5 gallon bucket of Vaseline 4 shoe horns 3 beers 2 grown men and a 20 lbs sledgehammer is beyond me :o ???. After we did a lot of online yak rigging shopping a little thinking a lot of sketchy sketchy and some more thinking we took a break and I gave him a quick bay car tour then ran him into Tillymuck to get his grocery shopping done.
We're off to Portland tomorrow for some more shopping and hitting the steel yard. I'll post up pictures as we plug away at the rack and there are a few surprises coming up as well as a few inventive ideas that we will share along the way. As well as a few lucky breaks we got on the first day to be leaked to the masses as we build along.

No had I thought it was that much of a keystone cops deal I would have had TLW video tape it.
$150 worth of steel and after all the stops we made on the way back for the little things and odds and ends 12 stops later I think I actually seen smoke coming off his credit card :o. Just got unloaded , dinner down going to relax before and get at it tomorrow afternoon TLW has a therapy appointment tomorrow morning.

It looks like it is sitting pretty well on the picnic table. I say just strap that on top and let it roll, just watch out for low bridges.

I never said it was our custom fab work..... Ok, ok keep your shirts on
Got the actual rack fabricated, welded , and painted. After measuring ten times and getting down to the placement we got lucky enough to be able to get the rack to bolt through the aluminum tubes and will be bolting  it from the inside back edge of the cabinets then putting Dicor on it since that's the same stuff the factory puts on them. It will have two cross bars bolted to the rack same as most car topers. Stay tuned for Friday's episode of yak that RV.

Hold your wad Rudy... He is required by NWKA law to fish with me down here first due to distance traveled and amount of time putting me to the grindstone to get the project done. Chris is doing 95% of the welding himself as he has experience, just had to get him use to my machine. Any of you Alaska guys that don't know him and might have him transport for you if you did.... He's a pretty cool guy and if you need something can trust him to deliver. We only have a few hours this morning to work on his project as I have some things to do but we will get the rack on the roof and remember we still have a few surprises on this build coming up.

Fabrication work is all but done just need to paint it up and finish up the surprise part of the build. Racks on and we got a set of J bars to hold the oasis partway up to make topping it less of a balancing act. The bars are going to be hitch pinned together for easy RV storage.
Hope you all like it...... Who the hell am I trying to kid I only care that Chris likes it after all it's his and I only assisted on this build.

Alright fellas. Master Mojo has been running me hard and keeping me very well entertained. Finally decided to take a moment to add my two cents before he wakes up and starts cracking the whip. I can't begin to express how grateful I am for his his hospitality and expertise; not just in steel fabrication and kayak fishing, but on general RV subjects as well. Since this is my first and an older model with inherent issues I'm fortunate to have him to help me troubleshoot before I hit the road to AK.

I came down with a few ideas pin balling around on what I wanted for a rack. After discussing with Shannon, he cast his Mojo magic and refined the design. While it is true I did most of the welding (none too pretty btw) I couldn't have put this together without Shannon's engineering... And of course his tools. He was also kind enough to take me out to Pacific City and Depoe Bay for a formal introduction into the wild world of kayak fishing. I'm sure he expected me to huli at PC and I was glad to disappoint him. But he got me into a fine pile of black rocks there and a limit of lings a couple days later in Depoe.

Looks like the weather is gonna cooperate today for final paint and assembly.

SHIT!!... He's coming. More to follow.
