Shad run soon?

Planning on hitting this after work next week since the weather will be so nice (WARM/HOT.) I checked the regs and didn't see anything, but barbed hooks okay?

Yes, barbed hooks are OK as long as you're targeting shad only.

Yeah good point. Although honestly I think if you're actually targeting shad it's pretty rare to hook a salmon... or just rare for me perhaps. I've caught pikeminnow and smallmouth on shad gear, never salmon.

That would be my luck to catch a springer on a barbed hook targeting shad, but unable to catch them when targeting them barbless. Good to know though.

Not questioning your statement, you know the regs far better than I do, I did a search couldn't come up with anything one way or the other, maybe I can get some clarification?
Last Saturday I was watcher a fishing show sponsored by "Fishermans, someone asked the host that exact question, regarding what happens if you catch a hatchery salmon while fishing for shad with barbed hooks.
The way I understood the explanation was that you had several choices, you could immediately release the salmon, or you could debarb all of your hooks at that point, keep the salmon and continue to fish,  the salmon would be considered an "incidental" catch.   You could also make the choice to quit fishing for the day, and still consider the salmon as an "incidental" catch.
Anyone have a link to the ODFW regs that talk about this?

Nope, Nope and nope.  It you caught it on a barb you absolutely cannot keep it under any circumstances.  The rules are very clear on that.  That tv host could end up getting a lot of people in legal trouble.

Lots of people over on ifish hook up on springers while shad fishing, so I crimp the barbs on my dick nites.
