I just gooped mine and I have dielectric grease on the waterproof connector.

Does one need to put these SLA batteries in a waterproof box still ??

I did, but I like things complicated.  I believe INSAYN drops it in a dry bag.  He's wiser than me.
I just put mine in a dry bag and rolled it with the cord coming out the roll.
