Btdt...

I I have used the single pin Yak Attack Ram ball for my rod holder and a screw ball for the ff. This works ok, but I will admit it could be a little heavier duty. Hasn't failed... but their is some flex in it, but it doesn't untwist either. Outside of going to the double Mighty Mount , I am trying the Stealth Rod holder that has the geartrax built in ($17.99)  https://www.stealthrodholders.com/products/2-point-track-mount-coming-soon

So far I like it a lot. but I miss the benefits of the ram ball.

That's getting way better on price.  Hopefully they come out with a ram ball adapter.

Has anyone ever seen a scotty-to-ram ball adapter?  I can think of a couple times I've wanted one of those.

Just stick a wedge mount in it. https://www.austinkayak.com/products/10163/RAM-Wedge-Mount-Adapter-15-in-for-Hobie-and-Scotty-Bases.html

Do they have wedge mounts that lock into scotty bases?

The design of Stealth rod holders and bases is basically identical to Scotty rod holders and bases, and the Stealth two-point base is very nicely made, but Scotty rod holders don't work with the Stealth two-point base, because the dimensions are different.  The little block which sticks out on the inside of the two-point base is too high for the notch in Scotty rod holders, and if you file down the little block so a Scotty rod holder can go down into the Stealth two-point base, the Scotty rod holder fits very loosely inside the Stealth two-point base.  Every time you pull your rod out of the Scotty rod holder, the rod holder will come most of the way out of the Stealth two-point base, and can spin in the base.

In talking with Jason (from stealth) he mentioned the stealth holder are fully compatible with scotty mounts, but it sounds like the scotty's are not fully compatible with the stealth. This is good to know. since I was thinking about getting the stealth track mount along with the scotty gearhead to the stealth holder since the stealth holders are just extensions and not as configurable. This obviously will not work as I was thinking so I am glad you bring that up. I will stick with the stealth holder and extention and simply ensure that I place my track right where I want it.

I've had 2 Dogbone's and a mighty bolt screw ball fail in the last two trips under light duty. I just purchased Folbe and getting rid of the Yakattack gear. I emailed the failures and they did not respond.

For a detailed explanation of the compatibility issues between Stealth and Scotty rod holders and bases, see http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=16987.msg189811#msg189811 .

I'm just going to throw this out there. Almost all street motorcycles made from the 70's and up came with a mirror with reverse threads. They are designed so that if something smacks the mirror it loosens instead of breaking. It is the right hand side that is reverse threaded and screws right into the mount that clamps onto the handlebars. If someone were to go to cycle junk yard these things can be had for next to nothing and cut and modded to your desire.

I just haven't had great luck with RAM mounted rod holders. Folbe for me.

But, you could get creative with some Starboard, 2 "mighty bolts", 2 T-Nuts, and one of the RAM balls that mount with two bolts. This is more of less how I installed my downrigger.

That is exactly how I set up my downrigger.

I've been using this:
